This week didn't get off to a great start following Ireland's defeat against England in the Aviva on Sunday. As much as I hate to admit it England were the better team on the day and deserved to win but its still hard to see Ireland lose. Hopefully they'll come back fighting in their game against France next Saturday. Of course it wasn't all bad news for Brian O'Driscoll on Sunday as his wife gave birth to their baby girl early that morning. Congratulations to Brian and his wife Amy on their new arrival!

Of course the big focus this week was on Valentines Day on Thursday. Love it or hate it, Valentines Day cannot be avoided as all the shops, restaurants and hotels advertise their offers. Being in the hotel industry we love this holiday as it is one of our busiest for our hotels, restaurants and spas. I'm not sure how many people now the story of St. Valentine but I was reminded of it this week and thought it would be interesting to share it with you given the week that it is.

The most popular story associated with Saint Valentine was that he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians. During his imprisonment, he is said to have healed the daughter of his jailer and legend states that before his execution he wrote her a letter "from your Valentine" as a farewell. By the 15th century, St. Valentines Day had evolved into an occasion in which people expressed their love for each other by giving flowers and sending hand written notes or card, known as "valentines". Now of course people spend a lot of money with romantic gestures, holidays and proposals all because of St. Valentines Day.

I hope you all enjoy your Valentines weekend however romantic it may be!
