It's that time of year again and the sports news this week has mainly been about one of the biggest racing festivals in the UK, Royal Ascot. Although I didn't manage to make it across the pond to watch the racing live, I have caught some of the highlights. I know I admitted to not being much of a betting man but even I couldn't resist a slight flutter on the big race of the week, the Gold Cup. Thankfully it wasn't a large bet as I hadn't put my money on Fame & Glory, who followed his former stable mate Yeats, and won the race.
The big event in Carlton news at the weekend was the celebration of the Carlton Hotel Dublin Airport's 5th Birthday last Thursday night. It's hard to believe its been five years since we opened this hotel but lets hope it continues to run successfully for many more years to come. The night overall was a complete success and it was great to see such a large turnout of people showing their support for the hotel. To celebrate their birthday the Carlton are offering rooms for only €55 as a hotel special offer near Dublin Airport. As you can imagine with such a great offer the rooms are selling fast so I'd advise you to book now to avail of this great rate.
Also last weekend, two of our hotels were doing their bit for charity! The Carlton Millrace Hotel were hosting events for Spina Bifida Ireland and the Carlton Shearwater Hotel were hosting events for the Share a Dream Foundation. I didn't make it to either of the hotels myself over the weekend but I heard all events were a great success and I believe they received a lot of support for both charities.
I plan to take it easy this weekend but I'm hoping that the weather improves slightly, with the way its been this week you wouldn't think it was the middle of June!
