Ireland could be getting two more public holidays! That means two more days off work* and two more opportunities to plan a long weekend away! The proposal has been put forward by Sinn Féin & The Green Party.
According to Newstalk, Sinn Féin has suggested Ireland commemorate "the Irish men and women who fought to establish an independent Irish Republic" on April 24th, while Green Party's Eamonn Ryan proposed to mark St. Brigid's Day as a public holiday on February 1st. The Green Party Leader argued, “The start of February is filled with significance, marking the first day of Spring and the Celtic festival of Imbolc. Lá Fhéile Bríde is a positive, potent celebration of new beginnings, the turning of the seasons and the cyclical nature of our life on Earth."
Ireland already has nine public holidays, which is the third fewest in Europe & the fourth fewest in the world. The question is, where will you go? Will it be a Dublin City Break or a long weekend in the sun? Either way - be sure keep an eye on our special offers!
*Unfortunatley, if like us your business does not close for bank holidays, this may be the good news story you were hoping for!
