Amazing Weekend in Tralee
Posted: 2012-08-20 11:00:00 Tralee was definitely the place to be this weekend as the Rose of Tralee International Festival was in full swing. The festivities kicked off with the Rose Ball in the Dome on Friday night and I must say it gets better every year. The Dome looked amazing, the food was outstanding and the entertainment was brilliant. It is definitely one of the biggest events of the week and it never disappoints.
I had a few judging duties to do on Saturday as I prepared for the Selection Nights but I did manage to find the time to catch the parade through the town and I’m delighted I did. It was great to see such support for the Roses with people travelling from all over the world to cheer on their Rose. I know the Roses themselves felt very overwhelmed by it all and were surprised to see so many fans in the audience!
Yesterday I had a bit more work to do as although there are only two selection nights on TV, a lot more goes into being a judge and we need to interview and read up on all the Roses individually so we make the right decision on Tuesday night. It’s not all work, work, work though and we do get to enjoy some of the events at the festival. One of the priorities for me yesterday was to keep an eye on the All Ireland Hurling Semi-Final to see who my home county Galway would be facing in the final. After what was an outstanding game, Kilkenny beat Tipperary by an amazing 4-24 to 1-15 and will go on to defend their All Ireland Hurling title against Galway. We’ve bet them already this season in the Leinster Final and I’m confident we can do it again in the All Ireland!
I’ve a bit more preparation work to do before tonight’s show but I’ll be back tomorrow with an update on how it’s all going!
