The Carlton Apprentice

Following the success of our participation in TV3’s Apprentice, this week we launched our search for the Carlton Apprentice! With over 900 employees in the group we received a lot of applications but we have narrowed it down to 11 candidates. Sarah O’Neill, the latest of Bill’s candidates to be fired, joined me on Tuesday to meet all the candidates and give them their official brief for the task.
The task we have set for our Apprentices is similar to the one we set for the show in September. Each of the candidates will have a stand in a Tesco store in Ireland for the 10th & 11th of December. The top two sellers will go head to head in the final from 17th – 19th of December in two large shopping centres in Ireland, the Pavilions in Swords and Whitewater in Newbridge. The ultimate winner will be decided based on the sales from that weekend. However, unlike the candidates for the show, none of our candidates have a sales background but they will be joined by the sales manager of their property so they will have some help. The winner of the task will the become the Carlton Apprentice and will win €3,000 worth of prizes plus 3 months work experience with the Carlton Sales & Marketing team.
After talking to the candidates on Tuesday it was great to hear some of the ideas they are coming up with to sell the vouchers, it’s bound to get very competitive in the coming weeks! Given the doom and gloom in the economy at the moment with all the talk of the budget, it’s great to see such positive attitudes towards this new challenge. I would like to wish all the candidates the best of luck in the task and I’ll be looking forward to seeing how they get on.
