St. Patrick's Weekend

Posted: 2012-03-16 17:00:00 St. Patrick’s Day is the one day of the year that most Irish people, both home and abroad, look forward to. Not only do they look forward to the extra day off work but it’s a day that gives everyone a chance to celebrate their Irishness. My guess is there will be plenty of celebrating this weekend with St. Patrick’s Day falling on a Saturday giving us a three day weekend. If our hotels are anything to go by it looks like there are plenty of people taking advantage of the bank holiday and heading away for the weekend. Most of our hotels have entertainment on over the weekend so if you are looking for something to do make sure to head to a Carlton Hotel!

Of course not only will we have our traditional celebrating to do but we will also hopefully be celebrating a victory tomorrow. Ireland are set to play England in the Six Nations tomorrow and I’m sure the majority of the population will be tuning in to watch. There is already great rivalry between the two teams but with it also being St. Patrick’s Day there will be extra pressure on the Irish team to perform. Hopefully they’ll manage to win but either way I’ll be cheering them on.

The sporting news this week has mainly been focused on Cheltenham and although I didn’t make it over myself I did catch some of the footage on the TV. There were some great races and also some terrible falls but all in all it was great to see the Irish doing well throughout the week. In other sporting news, tomorrow not only brings the Six Nations game but there are also two club finals on in Croke Park, in both hurling and football. It’s a big day for the teams and I wish all of them the best of luck.
