Selection Night One!

Posted: 2012-08-21 12:45:00 As one of the Rose of Tralee judges I was up and about early preparing for the first round of live interviews in the Dome last night. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes to prepare for this event along with interviews, practice rounds, sound checks and light testing. The Rose of Tralee committee work very hard each year to ensure the shows go on without a hitch!

Myself and my fellow judges headed into the Dome in plenty of time for the start of the show at 8pm and we took our seats in the front row. Some of my fellow Carlton Group colleagues were there also and we all agreed it was a fantastic show. Dáithí did a great job presenting, he even tried out some Zumba moves and a bit of line dancing and all of the Roses managed to hide the nerves and entertained us all with their stories and talents. With what we’ve seen so far we will definitely have a tough time picking a winner from this year’s selection, although I probably say that every year!

From what I heard the partying went on well into the early hours last night although I had another busy day ahead of me today so I didn’t stay up with the rest of the revellers! I’ve a bit more thinking and research to do today before we re-enter the Dome to see the rest of the Roses. Then myself and my fellow judges will have the difficult task of choosing the 2012 Rose of Tralee.

Make sure you all tune in tonight to find out who gets the crown and I’ll be back tomorrow with another update!
