A Night Full of Surprises!

Posted: 2013-08-20 00:00:00

Its all go down in Tralee but I said I would squeeze in a quick blog update after all the goings on of last night!! Hopefully you all tuned in to the first televised selection night of this year’s Rose of Tralee Festival, as you may know I am one of judges of the event.. And what an event it is turning out to be!

The live shows are always full of surprises but last night topped the lot. Between Dáithí Ó Sé in a mardi-gras outfit and then being being given a certificate of Newfoundland citizenship after kissing a fish and quaffing a shot of rum. I have always been a big fan of Dáithí and he didn’t disappoint last night, well able to tease the craic out of the contestants, keeping us all entertained. I’m looking forward to his antics tonight!

The biggest surprise of the night was landed on the New Orleans Rose, Molly when boyfriend Kyle Catlett asked her to marry him in front of an audience of about a half a million people! Of course she said yes and big congratulations to the happy couple from all at Carlton Hotel Group. Yet another Rose of Tralee love story!

It was also lovely to hear that Donal’s Day has been initiated by the people of Tralee in memory of Donal Walsh, who died last May from cancer. So now the 2013 Rose of Tralee won’t simply be crowned on Tuesday 20th August, she will be crowned on Donal’s Day!

Although I attend the festival every year, judging is a different kettle of fish, I really felt the excitement and nerves of every girl on stage last night and I think they all did a tremendous job. I know I have a big task ahead of me tonight and it just gets more difficult as we get to know each and every Rose and watch them shine on stage. I wish all 32 Roses the very best of luck and hope they are enjoying the festival just as much as I am. Look out for me tonight on RTE at 8pm for the final live show where we will decide who is this year’s Rose of Tralee!
