I spent last Sunday afternoon in the new Aviva Stadium watching Ireland take on France in the Six Nations. It was actually the first Six Nations match to be played in the new stadium, and for any of you that have yet to visit the Aviva it’s an amazing place to watch a live match. It was a close call throughout the game but unfortunately Ireland were beaten in the end which may hinder their hopes at winning the Six Nations title.
This weekend is another busy one in the Magners league with all four provinces playing matches over the next two days. Connacht, Ulster and Munster are all playing tonight with Connacht at home in the Galway Sportsground against the Glasgow Warriors, Ulster are playing away in Wales against the Llanelli Scarlets and Munster take on Edinburgh in Thomond Park. Tomorrow Leinster will also travel to Wales to take on the Cardiff Blues at Cardiff City Stadium. As the Carlton Hotel Galway City are the hospitality sponsors of Connacht they actually hosted their rival team the Glasgow Warriors for a few days in preparation for their match tonight. I won’t make it to any of the matches myself this weekend but I’m hoping to catch the highlights of all games and I would like to wish them all the best of luck. One match I will hopefully make it to this weekend is the Newstalk Towns Cup in North Kildare RFC. The Carlton Group sponsor North Kildare Rugby Club so I’ll be there to cheer them on in their match against West Offaly. It promises to be a good game as both teams are strong competitors and I’d like to wish North Kildare the best of luck and hopefully they’ll be victorious on the day!
On a different note I would like to say congratulations to Franziska Hintner from the Carlton Hotel Kinsale who was awarded the Failte Ireland Student of the Year in January. After successfully completing the three year Trainee Manager Development Programme in GMIT, Franziska was awarded the Student of the Year at the graduation ceremony with Failte Ireland on the 27th January 2011. I know John McGrath, the hotel’s general manager, is very proud of Franziska and I would like to extend my congratulations on behalf of the all the staff and directors of the Carlton Hotel Group.
