Rugby News!

Posted: 2012-05-11 00:00:00 This week I’m all about rugby as I was at the Irish Rugby Union Players Association (IRUPA) player of the year awards ceremony on Wednesday night. The Awards were held at the Burlington Hotel and I attended with our Sports Sales Developer, Kevin West. One of the big winners on the night was Rob Kearney who won the coveted ‘Irish Player of the Year’ award as voted for by his peers. The highlights of the night for me were definitely Brad Thorn’s speech and of course getting the chance to chat to Ireland and Lions star Shane Byrne. It was a great night overall and a great chance to celebrate the stars of Irish rugby.

Also this week the Carlton Hotel Galway City, who are proud hospitality sponsor of Connacht Rugby, were delighted with the news that Connacht will compete in Europe's top flight competition next season. With both Ulster and Leinster through to this year's Heineken Cup final on May 19th an Irish winner is guaranteed leaving the door open for Connacht to qualify as the fourth team from Ireland. This comes as a huge boost to the club which finished off their first ever Heineken Cup this year with a memorable victory over Harlequins in the Sportsground.

Our other sponsored rugby team North Kildare took part in the Kinsale Sevens last weekend and from what I’ve heard they got on really well. There were a few cuts and bruises over the weekend but that’s to be expected when you’re playing back to back games of rugby! All in all though the team really enjoyed the event and are already making plans for next year.

Hopefully the weather will pick up this weekend but if not I’m sure I’ll still manage to keep busy. Have a great one whatever you’re up to!
