Rose of Tralee Returns

Posted: 2011-06-03 13:00:00 This has been a busy week for us at Carlton as we prepare for the return of the Rose of Tralee festival this year. This weekend we have the regional finals in Portlaoise from today right through the weekend. As I’m a judge on the final I can’t be involved in the judging of the regional finals. However, we do still have Carlton representatives involved as our Director of Sales and Marketing, Jean O’Connell, is judging the Irish Roses and the General Manager of the Carlton Hotel Dublin Airport, Declan Meaghar, is judging the International Roses. It’s great for both of them to get to know some of the Roses before they meet them again during the Rose tour in August. It’s hard to believe its been almost a year already but I hope Clare Kambamettu has enjoyed her year as the Rose of Tralee and is ready to hand over her crown to a new Rose in August.

There is a lot going on in the world of sport this week with the big news being about the re-election of Sepp Blatter as the President of FIFA. There has been a lot of controversy and negative press about this and I’m sure there will be plenty more to come! In Irish sports the news is focused on the GAA Championship as is usual with this time of year. Its great to see the rivalry between the Carlton hotels return again, particularly the ones located in big GAA counties. And it’s not just the hotels that are guilty of the rivalry as we have a few GAA fanatics in our group office too. Thankfully though it’s all friendly, well at least it is for now anyway!

I’m not usually one to bet on the races but I may have to make an exception on Sunday and back the Queen’s horse in the English Derby.  Queen Elizabeth’s horses have never won the Derby but this year might just change that and especially considering her horse is called Carlton, well Carlton House to be exact! Maybe it is all in the name and in this case I think the name could bring her luck.

The return of the good weather will most likely mean the BBQs will be taken out of the shed for the weekend, I know mine will at least!
