Obama Re-elected

Posted: 2012-11-09 14:00:00 This week some of our sales and marketing team travelled over to London to attend the World Travel Market. It has been a very successful event in the past for us and from what I’ve heard this year went just as well for our team. They were fully booked up with meetings over the three days and made plenty of new contacts as well as meeting some familiar faces. Overall the event seems to have been a great success and the team are already working on some enquiries generated from their meetings.

Of course the big news this week was the Presidential election in America, with the two main candidates being Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. The vote was very close but Barack Obama won and was re-elected to serve another four years as President of America. On behalf of all of us here at the Carlton Hotel Group I would like to congratulate President Obama on his re-election. Hopefully he’ll make another trip over to Ireland in the near future.

One of the interesting things about the announcement of the re-election of President Obama was the evidence of how powerful social media is today. President Obama tweeted a photo of himself and Michelle embraced in a hug with the caption ‘Four More Years’ and it very quickly became the most retweeted tweet ever. The same picture was uploaded onto President Obama’s Facebook page, where it also broke records and became the most ‘liked’ photo ever posted on the site. It just goes to show the power of social media and how quickly it delivers news across the world.

I plan on taking it easy this weekend but no doubt some of you will be getting started on your Christmas shopping so best of luck with that!
