Cyclists in Westport
The cyclists from An Post Rás stopped off at the Carlton Atlantic Coast Hotel on Wednesday during their race around Ireland. The 2012 An Post Rás is an annual eight day, stage race around Ireland, taking place this week running from Sunday 20th to Sunday the 27th of May. The open racing style of The Rás pits amateur riders from county teams against international teams, allowing the best Irish amateur riders to take up the challenge and race against the professionals. The Rás has a worldwide reputation of being one of the more challenging tours in the elite international calendar. This is the second year An Post is sponsor of the celebrated Rás Tailteann and the Carlton Atlantic Coast Hotel were proud to host 12 teams for the event from all over Europe.
As Hotel partner with Swim Ireland we are delighted that Sycerika McMahon and Melanie Nocher have qualified for the Olympic games by beating the extremely difficult Olympic A standard at the European Championships in Hungary. They join Grainne Murphy and Barry Murphy who had already qualified. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish them all the best of luck in the Olympic Games in June, no doubt they’ll do Ireland proud.
Also this weekend, George Hook is visiting Westport to broadcast the Right Hook Show live from Matt Molloy's Bar on Friday promoting Destination Westport. George is staying at the Carlton Atlantic Coast Hotel where there will be a private dinner tonight in Bluewave Restaurant for the Competition Winners from the 'Right Hook Show'.
The weather’s due to stay like this for the weekend so I might need to dust off the barbeque, something I’d say a lot of you are planning! Hope you all have a great weekend and don’t forget to cheer on the boys in green tomorrow! Plus Leinster will be taking on the Ospreys in the Rabo Direct Final on Sunday so hopefully it’ll be a double celebration.
