As Chief Executive of Carlton Hotel Group, I'd like to welcome you to the Carlton Hotel Group blog. The Carlton Hotel Group was established in 2004 and since then has developed as one of the premier Hotel Groups in Ireland. In the past 7 years Carlton has grown substantially from operating one hotel to having a presence in many locations throughout Ireland.
Through this blog it is my aim to give you an insight into what's going on in all of our hotels plus my opinions on current affairs, sports news, general activities and events. I will also occassionally invite some of my colleagues to write on the blog giving you more opinions and insights into what's going on at Carlton. As you know we had our Mini Explorers campaign re-launch in Dublin Zoo and Fota Wildlife Park over the June bank holiday weekend and it was so successful that we are continuing to promote it at shopping centres over the next few weeks. We were in the Pavilions in Swords last weekend and our Mini Explorer’s team met loads of parents interested in our family breaks for their summer holidays. We’re in Dundrum Town Centre this weekend and the team are all ready with their balloons and competition forms! The main focus in the news this week has of course been the start of the Euros 2012 which officially kicks off today. According to the news they expect over 20,000 Irish fans will be travelling to Poland over the weekend. I know we’ve seen a few fans around the Carlton Hotel Dublin Airport this week as they prepare to fly and I’m sure we’ll see many more over the next few days. For those of us not lucky enough to be travelling I’m sure there will be plenty of parties and celebrations during all the Irish games. Ireland’s first game is on Sunday against Croatia and no doubt every pub across Ireland will be packed with supporters. I normally wait until the end of the week for my blog post but so much happened over the long weekend that I thought it best to fill you in now. As I mentioned on Friday our Sales & Marketing team were out in Dublin Zoo and Fota Wildlife Park at the weekend promoting our Mini Explorers family breaks for the Summer. Although the weather was a bit temperamental over the weekend there was still a great turn out at both attractions and our Mini Explorers team were kept busy all weekend. Along with the goodies on the day, there were also competitions for family breaks in Carlton Hotels. I want to start by congratulating Ireland in their victory against Bosnia-Herzegovina last weekend. It was just a friendly match but it was great for the fans to watch Ireland win with a victory of 1-0 and we’ll hopefully be celebrating more victories in the Euros! Unfortunately we weren’t celebrating in the Rugby though because Leinster narrowly missed out on making it two in a row in the RaboDirect final as they were beaten 30-31 by the Ospreys. It was disappointing to lose but the team have done so well this year it has been a great season overall and sure there’s always next year. The cyclists from An Post Rás stopped off at the Carlton Atlantic Coast Hotel on Wednesday during their race around Ireland. The 2012 An Post Rás is an annual eight day, stage race around Ireland, taking place this week running from Sunday 20th to Sunday the 27th of May. The open racing style of The Rás pits amateur riders from county teams against international teams, allowing the best Irish amateur riders to take up the challenge and race against the professionals. The Rás has a worldwide reputation of being one of the more challenging tours in the elite international calendar. The Dublin Rose selection night was on at the Carlton Hotel Blanchardstown at the weekend and the hotel was buzzing with excitement as a result! As I’m a judge for the Rose of Tralee Festival I can’t be involved in any of the other selection nights so I wasn’t at the hotel myself but from what I’ve heard it was a great night. On behalf of the Carlton Hotel Group I would like to congratulate Arlene O’Neill who was chosen as the 2012 Dublin Rose. I look forward to getting the chance to meet Arlene in August during the Rose of Tralee Festival. Now that it’s May the Rugby season is coming to an end but the GAA season is only just beginning. The preparations for this year’s Rose of Tralee are well under way and our marketing team have been working hard this week trying to decide on our PR campaign this year. It’s hard to believe that it’s our fifth year to be involved in the Rose of Tralee Festival. The Carlton Group PR campaigns have been very successful in the past with many people winning free rooms at Carlton Hotels. This year though we’re going with something different and I’m sure it will be very popular.
