An Evening with the Roses - By Guest Blogger Eveanna Ryan

Posted: 2013-08-13 17:00:00 We are recovering today from another event filled visit from the 32 International Roses of Tralee. Last night, for the third year running, we hosted an evening of fun and decadence with over 200 invited guests, the 32 lovely ladies and our very own “Carlton Rose” who wore a dress made entirely out of Roses with thanks to our friends in Magic Moment Floral Boutique! From goldfish swimming around suspended Roses in the centre pieces and the talent of Mr Des Willoughby to the dramatic Dry Ice cupcakes, it was an evening not to be missed. We would like to thank all of our guests for coming out on a “school night” to help make the evening so special. The Rose of Tralee has become a huge part of our annual calendar here at the Carlton Hotel Blanchardstown and we ...

The Dublin Home of the Roses - By Guest Blogger Declan Curtis

Posted: 2013-08-12 00:00:00 It is hard to believe it has been 12 months since we last hosted the 32 International Roses here at the Carlton Hotel Blanchardstown but yesterday we were thrilled to welcome the 2013 roses and our hard working friends on the Rose of Tralee team. It is the first opportunity for some of the International Roses to meet and get to know the Regional Roses and I'm sure it is both exciting and nerve wracking for them, but over the last 3 years of meeting these young ladies what I am sure of is that this is an experience that they will remember forever.2013 see’s another strong year with 32 accomplished and charming Roses gracing our hotel for 3 nights as they visit some of the most famous landmarks in Dublin including the Guinness Storehouse and Croke Park. During their visit to ...

Help Find a Dog a Home - By Guest Blogger Abigail Gilmartin

Posted: 2013-08-02 17:30:00 Hi everyone, my name is Abigail and I work in the Sales & Marketing department of the Carlton Hotel Group. Part of my role involves organising charity sponsorships and liaising directly with our chosen charity each year. As some of you may know already, Dogs Trust Ireland is our chosen charity for Carlton for 2013 and as a dog lover myself I really enjoy working with them. Back in June myself and some colleagues completed the Mini Marathon running (well more walking!!) for Dogs Trust. We all really enjoyed the experience and had a great day! This year we decided to try use our sponsorship of the Rose of Tralee to help promote Dogs Trust and came up with a great idea! We partnered each of the 32 Roses with 32 dogs and created an app on Facebook so people can read about the dog ...

The Countdown Begins! - By Guest Blogger Brigeen O'Sullivan

Posted: 2013-07-26 16:00:00 Greetings from Tralee or should I say Costa del Kerry??!! Like the rest of the country we have been basking in amazing sunshine and what a difference it makes. It’s just fantastic to see all our guests enjoying the best of what Tralee has to offer, with golden beaches just ten minutes away the only problem is the trail of sand in the hotel lobby each evening as they return from a stunning day at the beach! Plus our guests have even been enjoying breakfast on our sunny terrace each morning….what a perfect way to start the day. With only three weeks to the Roses arriving in Tralee, Rose Fever is definitely in full swing. Our General Manager Denis Deery and the rest of our operations team have been so busy finalising plans for the festival and we are all getting really ...

New Judge at Rose of Tralee International Festival

Posted: 2013-07-19 16:00:00 I know most of you are used to reading my colleague, Michael Kearney’s, opinions on this blog but I’ve decided to give him a bit of a break and have taken it over for a while. From now on I’ll be blogging every few weeks, keeping you up to date on all that’s happening across Carlton hotels. This is my first time writing on the blog but I’m sure I will get the hang of it soon enough! I’ll also be continuing with the guest blog slot so you never know Michael might be back from time to time if I allow him – only joking. So I suppose the big news this week is that I’m going to be a Rose of Tralee International judge for the first time this year, I guess the blog isn’t my only first this summer. I normally spend a lot of time in Tr ...

Oh my my July - By Guest Blogger Aoife Smyth

Posted: 2013-07-12 16:00:00 I can’t start this week’s blog without mentioning this fantastic weather we have been getting and I hear there is more set to follow! As a bit of a sun worshipper I am in my element! So, I’m here to fill you in on what’s new at the Carlton Hotel Dublin Airport…..The sunshine has brought lots of positive energy to our Kittyhawks Bistro. Our Head Chef Fintan and Sous Chef Colm have been driving a new Farm to Fork concept to Kittyhawks, sourcing local, seasonal produce for the new menus. The new concept means the Bistro needed some new blood and on that note I would like to welcome Damien O’Brien to the Kittyhawks Bistro team as our new food and beverage manager. Damien hails from county Laois and has an abundance of bar management experience. Th ...

Double Win for Dublin

Posted: 2013-07-05 17:00:00 Last weekend was a great weekend for GAA action and an even better weekend for Dublin! They took on Kilkenny on Saturday in a replay following their draw with the Cats the previous week. As my home county Galway experienced last year, it’s difficult to beat Kilkenny once but almost impossible to beat them a second time so all the odds were pointing to a loss for Dublin. They couldn’t have been more wrong as the Dubs went on to beat the Cats by a goal with the final score being 1-16 to 16 points. It was Dublin’s first championship win over Kilkenny since 1942 so I’m sure there was plenty of celebrating going on in the capital on Saturday night! The Dublin Senior Football team had another chance to give their fans a reason to celebrate as they took on Kildar ...
