What Makes a Rose

Posted: 2013-08-21 00:00:00 Last night was the climax of the Rose ofTraleeFestival 2013, where we decided who take the tiara! After seeing how well all the girls did on Monday night I knew things could only get tougher Tuesday. I was looking forward to seeing what night two could bring and as with night one I wasn’t disappointed. The Dome was bustling with onlookers and the atmosphere was electric with great support for the Roses! Daithi was on fire again last night, I always admire the repose he builds with the Roses over the duration of the festival. Each of last night’s 14 Roses did a fantastic job and I have no doubt that all of this year’s contestant will go on to do great things.A final thank you and best wishes to outgoing Rose of Tralee, Nicola Mc Evoy, she has really encapsulated t ...

A Night Full of Surprises!

Posted: 2013-08-20 00:00:00 Its all go down in Tralee but I said I would squeeze in a quick blog update after all the goings on of last night!! Hopefully you all tuned in to the first televised selection night of this year’s Rose of Tralee Festival, as you may know I am one of judges of the event.. And what an event it is turning out to be!The live shows are always full of surprises but last night topped the lot. Between Dáithí Ó Sé in a mardi-gras outfit and then being being given a certificate of Newfoundland citizenship after kissing a fish and quaffing a shot of rum. I have always been a big fan of Dáithí and he didn’t disappoint last night, well able to tease the craic out of the contestants, keeping us all entertained. I’m looking forward to ...

Roll on the Rose - By Guest Blogger Brian Hurley

Posted: 2013-08-19 00:00:00 So it’s only been three days since my last guest blog but what a few days it has been. On Friday last the Carlton Hotel officially became the home of the Rose of Tralee International Festival as 32 Roses from all over the World arrived in Tralee. The red carpet was in place at the entrance steps of the hotel, champagne on ice and a live jazz band struck up an upbeat rendition of the Rose of Tralee song. The Escorts and Rose Buds formed a line on either side of the red carpet for the Roses big entrance. General Manager of the Carlton Tralee, Denis Deery and Rose of Tralee Nicola McEvoy greeted each Rose as they entered the lobby to massive cheers of support from loved ones and supporters, with this grand entrance, the festival was officially under way. What ensued can only b ...

Butterflies, Boys & Bubbly - By Guest Blogger Catherine Breslin

Posted: 2013-08-16 00:00:00 Thursday, 32 nervous Roses arrived to the Salthill Hotel, Galway, with excited anticipation of meeting their Escorts for the Festival ahead. The Roses were ushered quickly to their bedrooms to prepare for the evenings festivities, whilst the Escorts sat waiting upon a bus, that was curtailed on it’s journey, at Salthill’s Promenade, until all 2013’s Roses were safely inside & out of sight! With a rousing applause, the Escorts acknowledged their female charges as they lined out on the hotel terrace. As dusk fell & the sun began to retreat, the enthusiastic pairings arrived in to a Champagne reception where some welcome comic relief was provided to the nervous bunch of 64, by an impromptu appearance from Brendan Grace. This set the tone for the fun to come ...

Getting Ready for the Roses - By Guest Blogger Brian Hurley

Posted: 2013-08-15 16:00:00 On Monday August 5th 2013 I was at home preparing myself for a new and exciting chapter in my life. Thoughts of my youth came rushing back, with the feelings of excitement, anxiousness and a few nerves, it felt as if I was making the transition from primary to secondary school all over again. After working in media for the last 13 years or so I was about to take a leap to hospitality after gladly accepting the role of Business Development Manager for the Carlton Hotel Tralee. Like most things in life, I needn’t have worried so much, as I soon realised that the right decision had been made. The whole Carlton Group family welcomed me with open arms and even a few kisses on the cheek! The fact that Denis Deery, General Manager of the Carlton Tralee along with my colleague Brig ...

Rose Tour Begins!

Posted: 2013-08-14 17:00:00 We are well into the Rose Tour at this stage and what a week it has been so far. The Roses arrived at the Carlton Hotel Blanchardstown on Sunday but weren’t given long to settle in as they made the journey to Newbridge Silverware showrooms in Kildare where they received tips and advice from Celia Holman Lee. On Monday they visited some of Dublin’s top attractions and then spent the evening being wined and dined at the Carlton Hotel Blanchardstown. It was great to get the chance to meet some of the Roses at the event but I’m already worried about how I’m going to choose one winner because they are all such lovely ladies! On Tuesday morning the Roses left the Carlton Blanchardstown and made their way up North, visiting Belfast and Derry City and will leave f ...
