Welcome from Our Chief Executive, Michael Kearney
As Chief Executive of Carlton Hotel Group, I'd like to welcome you to the Carlton Hotel Group blog. The Carlton Hotel Group was established in 2004 and since then has developed as one of the premier Hotel Groups in Ireland. In the past 7 years Carlton has grown substantially from operating one hotel to having a presence in many locations throughout Ireland.
Through this blog it is my aim to give you an insight into what's going on in all of our hotels plus my opinions on current affairs, sports news, general activities and events. I will also occassionally invite some of my colleagues to write on the blog giving you more opinions and insights into what's going on at Carlton. If you have any questions or queries on any of the posts please leave a comment and I will respond at my earliest convenience. Enjoy reading.............

I’d like to start by welcoming you all back after the Christmas break and wishing you a very Happy New Year, hopefully you’re all settling back into work ok. For us it can be hard to settle back in January after the busy Christmas period but what a great start to the year it has turned out to be. Not only did we have our January sale this week, offering 50% off B&B rates, which was a great success but we also welcomed two new partner hotels into our hotel collection. The first of the two hotels to join our hotel collection this week was the Salthill Hotel in Galway. The Salthill Hotel is a lovely property that is located right on the Salthill promenade with panoramic views of Galway Bay. I’ve visited the hotel many times myself in the past and have always enj ...

As with the previous two years, we have been searching for the next Carlton Apprentice and after weeks of competitive selling we are now down to the final two. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of this year’s Apprentices and to commend them on the hard work they have been doing selling Carlton vouchers. There can only be one winner though and this year it will either be Conchúr Finnegan from the Carlton Blanchardstown or Róisín Kearney from the Carlton Dublin Airport. Both our finalists did exceptionally well on their gift voucher sales to date and they will go head to head this week in two Dublin shopping centres. Conchúr will be selling Carlton gift cards in Jervis Street Shopping Centre and Róisín will be i ...

What a week it has been in Tralee this week! Preparations are in full swing for today’s wedding of the beautiful Sinead Delaney and Kerry footballer Daniel Bohane. We were delighted to welcome them both along with their family & friends. There are also Kerry football stars enjoying their celebrations but not a kit bag or football boot in sight! After months of meticulous planning the Riverview Suite has been transformed into a Wedding Winter Wonderland and the party is now in full swing! We wish them both a life full of health, wealth & happiness. The Carlton Tralee Apprentice Shona Houlihan is really enjoying her experience this year and has spent the week promoting our Carlton Christmas Vouchers. She is a bit like Santa at the moment – making a list and che ...

It really felt like the beginning of the Christmas countdown this week with the freezing weather we’ve had. Each morning this week I’ve gone out to the car with a full kettle and it’s nearly been frozen again by the time I get back into it. I suppose we can’t really complain though because although it’s cold at least it’s not raining or worse, snowing! There are rumours of snow for this weekend but once it doesn’t reach the levels we had a couple of years ago we should be ok.At Carlton head office, this week brought the start of the Christmas gift voucher advertising and the launch of this year’s campaign. Although we sell gift vouchers all year round, Christmas is obviously the busiest time as our vouchers are a very popular Christ ...

It’s been another hectic week for me here at the Carlton Group but I really can’t complain because I much prefer being kept busy. I did get to spend a good portion of the week in my office which always helps with catching up on paperwork as it can build up if I leave it too long. The main event this week was of course Thanksgiving and although it is traditionally an American holiday, with so many people now living away from home there were probably plenty of Thanksgiving celebrations all around the world. As many of you know, the day after Thanksgiving is known as ‘Black Friday’ in America, as after being closed for one day all the stores re-open with massive sales. This is one tradition that seems to have travelled over here because I’ve noticed a l ...

I must start by mentioning the Ireland V South Africa rugby game at the Aviva last Saturday afternoon and despite a strong performance by the home team, it unfortunately wasn’t enough to win. Ireland were the stronger team in the first half and were nine points ahead going into half time. But South Africa came back fighting in the second half and eventually beat Ireland 16 points to 12. Despite missing many of their key players due to injury, Ireland played a good game and will hopefully be victorious in their next match. In Carlton news this week there has been plenty going on as per usual these days! The hotels are in full swing preparing for their Christmas party nights which from what I hear are filling up fast so if you’ve yet to book yours make sure to check our ...

This week some of our sales and marketing team travelled over to London to attend the World Travel Market. It has been a very successful event in the past for us and from what I’ve heard this year went just as well for our team. They were fully booked up with meetings over the three days and made plenty of new contacts as well as meeting some familiar faces. Overall the event seems to have been a great success and the team are already working on some enquiries generated from their meetings.Of course the big news this week was the Presidential election in America, with the two main candidates being Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. The vote was very close but Barack Obama won and was re-elected to serve another four years as President of America. On behalf of all of us here at t ...
