Fish Restaurant 1st Birthday

Posted: 2011-08-05 17:30:00 The last long weekend of the summer is now over along with Kildare’s chance at winning this year’s All-Ireland final. I was at Croke Park on Saturday to watch Kildare take on Donegal and after a long game with extra time I was disappointed to see Kildare lose. The team put on a great fight through the whole match and for while we thought they had the game one but all it took was two points towards the end from Donegal which led them to victory. That means both my home and adopted counties are out of the championship but sure there’s always next year!Last weekend the Fish Restaurant at the Carlton Atlantic Coast Hotel celebrated its first birthday. Every year we seem to say that time is flying but honestly it doesn’t feel like a year since we opened! To cel ...

The Galway Races

Posted: 2011-07-29 17:30:00 Unfortunately Galway didn’t make it through to the Hurling Semi-Finals as they were beaten by Waterford Sunday. They played a great game but Waterford were the better team on the day and deserved the win. Thankfully though there was a win the day before for my adopted county Kildare and they’ve now made it through to the Football Quarter-Finals following their victory over Derry. Hopefully they’ll beat Donegal this Saturday and make it through to the Semi-Finals! Although Galway lost on Sunday there was plenty of celebrating going on in the city on Monday as the famous Galway Racing Festival kicked off. As with last year, I travelled over to the Ballybrit Racecourse on Monday with some of my colleagues to watch the feature race which is sponsored by the Carlton ...

Fish Pedicure in Kinsale

Posted: 2011-07-22 16:00:00 With the weekend of weather we just had you wouldn’t think it was summer at all, thankfully though it didn’t prevent some great GAA matches from going ahead! Following Galway’s defeat to Meath recently I was really hoping Kildare would get revenge on their behalf in their game against the royal county last Saturday and I was delighted when they did. Both teams played well but Kildare deserved there win of 8 points following an outstanding performance by the team. I’m just hoping Galway will do as well in the hurling this weekend against Waterford! At the weekend I took a trip down to the Carlton Hotel Kinsale and seeing as the weather wasn’t great I took advantage of the facilities on offer inside the hotel. Since the TV3 broadcast from the hotel I&rs ...

Athy Bluegrass Festival

Posted: 2011-07-15 15:00:00 Last weekend was a great weekend for Galway as they took on Cork in the Senior Hurling Championship and beat them 2-23 to 1-14. Their victory on Saturday means they are now through to the Quarter Finals and will face Waterford next weekend. After Waterford’s poor performance against Tipperary on Sunday there’s every chance Galway could beat them and make it through to the All-Ireland Semi Final. Unfortunately they weren’t as lucky in the football though and were knocked out in the qualifiers by Meath. However, my adopted county Kildare did make it through to the next round after their win over Laois on Saturday so hopefully they’ll get revenge for Galway and beat Meath in their game this weekend! It was a busy weekend for festivals in Kildare with Oxygen ta ...

Galway Races Launch

Posted: 2011-07-08 17:00:00 The live broadcast of TV3’s Ireland AM from the Carlton Atlantic Coast Hotel on Thursday was a great success. Although there were a few technical difficulties, the morning overall went really well and I was delighted with how the hotel came across on the day. I’d like to thank the hotel’s general manager, Garrett McGuinness, and all his staff for the hard work they’ve put in getting the hotel ready for the show. Hopefully it will encourage some more ‘staycations’ in Westport this year!Thankfully nothing cropped up on Thursday morning and I made it over to the Carlton Hotel Galway City for the official launch of the Galway Races 2011. There was a great attendance at the event with TV3 correspondent’s Jenny McCudden and Noel Cunningham, alo ...

TV3 in Westport

Posted: 2011-07-06 09:30:00 Last weekend saw the much anticipated Leinster Senior Hurling Final between Kilkenny and Dublin and although we all thought Dublin were in with a chance, Kilkenny proved to be the better team on the day. I was hoping that Dublin would win the Leinster title but I must admit Kilkenny deserved their victory plus Henry Shefflin proved he’s back in form after being out with injuries! Kilkenny weren’t the only winning team on Sunday as my home county Galway beat Clare by a massive margin of 4 goals and 5 points. Hopefully they’ll make it to in a row in their match against Cork this weekend!Following TV3’s visit to Kinsale two weeks ago, they are broadcasting another edition of Ireland AM live from the Carlton Atlantic Coast Hotel tomorrow in association with De ...

Summer Season Begins!

Posted: 2011-07-01 16:00:00 It wasn’t a great weekend in sport for me last weekend as both my home county Galway and my adopted county Kildare lost their matches at the weekend. Mayo beat Galway by a margin of 6 points but it was a narrower victory for Dublin as they beat Kildare by just one point. Thankfully though there is still another chance for both teams and you never know they might still make it through to the All-Ireland in September! The start of the school holidays is always a busy time for any hotel and we’ve been no exception this week! All the hotels have been preparing for the holiday season and organising their kids clubs to cater for all the families with young children. As with last year there are a lot more families choosing a ‘staycation’ over a holiday abroad, whi ...
