Ballinasloe October Fair Returns

Posted: 2011-09-30 16:30:00 The sporting news this week has been all about the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand and it’s great to see Ireland doing so well in it. They followed their amazing victory over Australia with a 62 to 12 win over Russia last Sunday morning. I was one of the many Irish fans glued to the TV early on Sunday morning watching the match and cheering Ireland on to their victory. It’ll be another early start this weekend as they take on Italy in what will definitely be a game worth watching! The famous October Fair returns to Ballinasloe this weekend and this year’s festival queen was chosen this week. Cathriona Farrell was crowned Queen of the Fair at the Carlton Shearwater Hotel and beat off strong competition to be awarded the title. The general manager of the hotel, Mar ...

Great Weekend for Sport

Posted: 2011-09-23 17:00:00 Last weekend was a fantastic weekend for sport both locally and internationally. Saturday began with an early start as I got up to watch Ireland take on Australia in the Rugby World Cup. Despite many commentators believing Ireland didn’t have a chance, they proved them all wrong and beat Australia, bringing them one step closer to the World Cup Quarter-Finals. It was amazing game to watch with the final score coming in at Ireland 15 and Australia 6. I’ll be up early again this weekend to watch them take on Russia on Sunday morning and hopefully make it two in a row.It was another victory for the underdog in GAA this week in the All-Ireland Senior Football Final. Despite the fact that bookies and commentators alike expected Kerry to win, Dublin proved them all wrong an ...

All Ireland Football Final

Posted: 2011-09-16 15:00:00 Last weekend saw my home county, Galway take on Wexford in the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship. Galway tried their best and despite battling hard they lost out on the title of All-Ireland Champions to Wexford. Congratulations to Wexford as they deserved the win but hopefully next year Galway will claim the title. However, there was still a trophy going home to Galway as the under 21’s beat Dublin to claim the All-Ireland Under 21 Hurling title. It was a great game with Galway managing to beat Dublin by an amazing 3-14 to 1-10.This weekend the focus is on the All-Ireland Football final between Dublin and Kerry. There’s great rivalry between the two counties, especially in the Carlton Group with us having properties in both Dublin and Kerry. Along with that some ...

All-Ireland Champions

Posted: 2011-09-09 10:00:00 All-Ireland Final day is always a great time to be in Croke Park but last Sunday in particular was a great day for me. After watching both the Galway Hurling & Football Senior teams lose out on titles this year it was great to see the Minors bringing a title home to Galway. They played against Dublin in the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Final and although Dublin tried, Galway proved to be the better team and won with a victory of 9 points. As I was in Croke Park for the Minor match I stayed on to watch the Senior Hurling Final between Tipperary and Kilkenny. I must admit I was hoping Tipperary would make it two in a row but Kilkenny definitely deserved to win. The Cats came back fighting for the title and were on top form, managing to score five points in 13 minutes. Unfortunatel ...

New CSpa in Tralee!

Posted: 2011-09-02 00:00:00 This week has been all about catch up after the utmost enjoyable but hectic 2 weeks of the ROT. I’ve been Dublin based for most of the week but I was down in Tralee again midweek to see how construction progress is coming along with our new C-Spa in the property. Thankfully it’s coming along very nicely and you’ll all be able to add Tralee to the list of Carlton Spa Destinations in the not too distant future. I’m very fortunate to be heading to Croke Park again this weekend after sourcing some last minute tickets for a game which promises to be a cracker between Tipp and the Cats, I’ll be there primarily for the Minor match in which hopefully my home county Galway can overcome Dublin in a reverse of the result of last week’s Minor football ...

GAA Sport Weekend!

Posted: 2011-08-26 16:00:00 I have returned to Dublin now and back to reality as the Rose of Tralee Festival is now over for this year. It’s been a busy week for the Carlton Team as we have hosted at lot of the events in our hotels. I would like to say a big thank you to Anthony Smiddy and his team in the Carlton Hotel Tralee for looking after us all over the past few days. The festival was a great success.I will definitely be watching Dublin’s journey to the All-Ireland Minor and Senior Football Championship on Sunday when the Minors take on Galway and the Seniors take-on Donegal. Our Director of Sales & Marketing Jean O’Connell a native from Kerry will be keeping a close eye on the match to see who will get through to the Final to play Kerry! Good Luck to Ireland also who play Englan ...

What a Fantastic Night!

Posted: 2011-08-24 16:00:00 2011 International Rose of Tralee was crowned last night, bringing another fantastic week of events to a close. I had to prepare myself for the difficult decision that was ahead of me! I spent the afternoon reviewing the many notes I took from the rose interviews. It was a great show with the remaining 14 Roses coming across very well and of course Dáithí once again almost stole the show! I really enjoyed Imelda May’s performance and it’s great to see a music act this year again. Making our decision was a difficult task as always considering the standard of Roses but a decision had to be made. I hope everyone thinks we’ve made a great choice and I look forward to working with Tara in the coming year. I hope everyone enjoyed the festivities on offer ...
