Welcome from Our Chief Executive, Michael Kearney

As Chief Executive of Carlton Hotel Group, I'd like to welcome you to the Carlton Hotel Group blog. The Carlton Hotel Group was established in 2004 and since then has developed as one of the premier Hotel Groups in Ireland. In the past 7 years Carlton has grown substantially from operating one hotel to having a presence in many locations throughout Ireland.
Through this blog it is my aim to give you an insight into what's going on in all of our hotels plus my opinions on current affairs, sports news, general activities and events. I will also occassionally invite some of my colleagues to write on the blog giving you more opinions and insights into what's going on at Carlton. If you have any questions or queries on any of the posts please leave a comment and I will respond at my earliest convenience. Enjoy reading.............

Vote 123!

Posted: 2011-02-25 10:00:00 The news this week has been all about election day and encouraging everyone to exercise their right to vote and go down to their local polling stations on Friday. Although I prefer to remain neutral when talking publicly about the election I can’t stress enough how important it is that everyone votes. I’ll be down to my local polling station as soon as I get a chance today and I’ll be making sure my colleagues take the time to do the same! As it is all about voting this week, I’m sure you know that we at the Carlton Hotel Group always like to get in on the action. At our recent marketing meeting I had heard the team mention an idea about a voting offer and I must admit I’m impressed with what they came up with. Playing on the ‘vote 123’ c ...

Rugby Week!

Posted: 2011-02-18 17:00:00 I spent last Sunday afternoon in the new Aviva Stadium watching Ireland take on France in the Six Nations. It was actually the first Six Nations match to be played in the new stadium, and for any of you that have yet to visit the Aviva it’s an amazing place to watch a live match. It was a close call throughout the game but unfortunately Ireland were beaten in the end which may hinder their hopes at winning the Six Nations title. This weekend is another busy one in the Magners league with all four provinces playing matches over the next two days. Connacht, Ulster and Munster are all playing tonight with Connacht at home in the Galway Sportsground against the Glasgow Warriors, Ulster are playing away in Wales against the Llanelli Scarlets and Munster take on Edinburgh in Thom ...

The race is on

Posted: 2011-02-11 17:00:00 The date for the general election was announced last week and this week the campaign really took off with the first debate at the start of the week. The politicians were all out in force canvassing to homes and business across the country. From a tourism perspective I’m delighted to see that all parties have presented quite interesting tourism policies and I look forward to working with the next government on implementing these policies and creating jobs for the sector.I paid a brief visit to our Limerick property, the Carlton Casteltroy Park hotel, this week where I met with the hotel’s general manager Denis Deery. I was delighted to hear from Denis that plans for 2011 are well advanced and expectations for the year are bright despite challenges in the local environm ...

Election Time

Posted: 2011-02-04 17:00:00 Unlike last week I wasn’t lucky enough to get to spend the week in Dublin Airport and instead ended up down the south of Ireland for most of it! As I mentioned a recently, the Carlton Hotel Kinsale are currently undergoing refurbishments in their bar and thankfully have almost finished. I was eager to get down to see the work completed so far and I must say I’m delighted I did because the changes are amazing. The new layout of the bar now makes the most of the stunning views Kinsale has to offer and I must admit I’m looking forward to enjoying a pint in it! While down in Kinsale I took the opportunity to visit the Carlton Tralee as I had a few business meetings in the area. Following my meetings in Tralee I headed back up to Dublin Airport and luckily got to spe ...

Monster Movie in Donegal!

Posted: 2011-01-28 16:00:00 I spent most of this week in my office at the Carlton Dublin Airport as I had a few meetings in the area and it was great to get the chance to catch up on some paperwork as I’m on the road next week and won’t get much chance to do it! My weekend ended up being quite busy so I didn’t get the chance to go to Galway but I’d like to congratulate Connacht on their win against Cavalieri Prato on Saturday, I believe it was a great match! Hopefully they’ll make it three in a row in their match against the Scarlets on the 12th of February; I wish them the best of luck either way! There was a lot of talk this week about a film being shot in Donegal and how it’s driving revenue for the local businesses. Donegal Hotels, bars and restaurants on the Inishowe ...

Carlton Apprentice Awards Night

Posted: 2011-01-21 16:30:00 Thankfully I’ve managed to shake the dose of the flu I had last week and attend the Leinster match on Saturday. It was a phenomenal match and I was delighted that I got the chance to see it live, well done to the team on an amazing win. I had planned to call over to the graduation fayre at the Carlton Shearwater Hotel on Sunday but unfortunately I didn’t get the chance. I heard it was a great event though with Breffny Morgan, from TV3’s Apprentice, entertaining the models and staff throughout the afternoon. For any of you that follow the blog regularly you will know that we recently did a search for the Carlton Apprentice and Brendan Havlin from the Carlton Redcastle Hotel was chosen as the winner. The whole campaign was a great success and we were eager to rewa ...

Castletroy Wedding Showcase!

Posted: 2011-01-14 17:00:00 Like many others this week I was confined to my bed for a few days with an awful dose of the flu. Although I found it hard to stay cooped up inside it was a great opportunity to catch up on some paperwork and keep up to date with the latest news. However, while watching the news this week I was very sorry to hear about the death of Mickey Harte’s daughter Michaela and my sympathies go out to him and his family at this very difficult time.Last weekend was a busy one for the Carlton Castletroy Park Hotel as they were at the Mid West Bridal Exhibition in the University Sports Arena in Limerick. I was delighted to see my fellow Rose of Tralee judge, Mary Kennedy, supporting local businesses this week on Nationwide. Mary was presenting the show from the exhibition and the event ...
