Ready for Spring!

Posted: 2014-01-24 17:00:00 So we’ve nearly reached the end of January, just one more week to go and winter is over for another year. I have to say though it didn’t feel too much like winter this year as the weather was unusually mild. Don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining, I just hope the arrival of spring doesn’t bring the cold weather or snow with it. With the way winter was it wouldn’t surprise me if we had blizzards in March – it’s happened before! This week there was a lot of ‘spring cleaning’ going on in the Carlton Hotel Dublin Airport as they freshened up their interior after the winter. The evenings are getting brighter and with that brings the need to have everything shiny and new again. It has mainly just been a lick of paint here and ...

Back to Reality!

Posted: 2014-01-10 16:30:00 The first week back after the Christmas holidays is always the hardest and I’m sure some of you have an extra big dose of the Friday feeling today! We came back with a bang this week as our January sale was launched on Monday morning and it was so successful we extended it for a further 24 hours. Many of you took advantage of our 50% reduction and booked dates throughout the year in each of our hotels. It’s great that so many of you now have a break in a Carlton Hotel to look forward to, hopefully it’ll help you get through the January blues! This week I had the chance to catch up with all our general managers on Wednesday as we gathered at the Carlton Dublin Airport for a meeting. It was great to get the chance to meet them all at once as I had a lot to catch u ...

Wishing You a Merry Christmas!

Posted: 2013-12-20 16:00:00 I must start this week’s blog by congratulating the winner of our Carlton Apprentice competition, Katie Sludds from the Carlton Hotel Blanchardstown. Katie had some tough competition from the other apprentices and I would like to congratulate them all on the great results they achieved. It was great to see all the other staff in the hotels get so behind their apprentices, it really was a team effort. I’ve no doubt everyone at the Carlton Blanchardstown is delighted with Katie’s win and I hope the other apprentices aren’t too disappointed. If you didn’t get to buy a Carlton gift card from our apprentices in the shopping centres remember they can be bought online and printed instantly on www.carlton.ie/giftvouchers, perfect for some last minute shoppin ...

Final Week of Competition

Posted: 2013-12-13 17:00:00 This year we launched the search for the Carlton Apprentice in October and four of our hotels put forward candidates to represent them. Apprentices from the Carlton Blanchardstown, Carlton Tralee, Carlton Dublin Airport and Carlton Shearwater Hotel have been working hard selling vouchers to their corporate clients since then, as well as building up their following through social media. But the real competition started this week as they all go head to head in shopping centres to compete to win the most vouchers. On Monday morning our Apprentices set up their Christmas themed stands in Jervis Shopping Centre and Swords Pavilions Shopping Centre. I have seen some photos of the stands and they really have taken the Christmas theme seriously. I think I may have even seen one Apprentic ...

Ireland take on the All Blacks!

Posted: 2013-11-22 14:00:00 As is usual with my job, I spent a lot of time travelling this week, but I did get to spend a couple of days in Dublin catching up with my colleagues in head office. It’s important that I keep up to date with their plans for the coming months so I try to have a review meeting as often as I get the chance. Their focus at the moment is of course the Christmas gift voucher campaign but it’s great to see all the activity planned for early 2014. As I’ve mentioned before we’re always working a few months ahead in hotels and in particular in our sales and marketing department. Sure I even think I overheard someone mention Easter while I was in the office the other day! While I was in the Carlton Dublin Airport I noticed that they are running a collection for fami ...
