Welcome from Our Chief Executive, Michael Kearney
As Chief Executive of Carlton Hotel Group, I'd like to welcome you to the Carlton Hotel Group blog. The Carlton Hotel Group was established in 2004 and since then has developed as one of the premier Hotel Groups in Ireland. In the past 7 years Carlton has grown substantially from operating one hotel to having a presence in many locations throughout Ireland.
Through this blog it is my aim to give you an insight into what's going on in all of our hotels plus my opinions on current affairs, sports news, general activities and events. I will also occassionally invite some of my colleagues to write on the blog giving you more opinions and insights into what's going on at Carlton. If you have any questions or queries on any of the posts please leave a comment and I will respond at my earliest convenience. Enjoy reading.............

What a week! I’ve been all over the country this week as we’re shooting videos for all the hotels and I decided to drop by to see how filming was going. It’s not every week I get to spend one day in Westport and the next in Tralee and Kinsale but with the weather we had this week it was great for traveling through the country! It was amazing to see some of the shots they were taking and what they can achieve with the equipment they had. They’re hoping to have all videos completed soon and I’m really looking forward to seeing the finished products. This week was also the launch of the Achill Marathon and the announcement that the Carlton Hotel Group are one of the main sponsors of the event. The official launch and photo shoot took place in Stephen&rsq ...

This week has been a bit of a hectic one for me as of course my attention has been focused on the new addition to the Carlton Hotel Group. On Tuesday morning we were delighted to announce the addition of the Carlton Hotel Blanchardstown, formerly Plaza Hotel in Tyrrelstown, to the Carlton Group. I was in the hotel myself on Tuesday and it was great to get the chance to meet some of the managers and staff in the property and I look forward to working with them all in the future. One of the most important tasks in hand on Tuesday morning was to contact all the brides and grooms that have their weddings booked in the hotel to assure them their booking was still secure. I know our Director of Sales & Marketing, Jean O’Connell, personally called some of the couples and the f ...

The highly anticipated Ireland and England Six Nations game last Saturday certainly didn’t disappoint! I had planned to watch the match at home but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity of some last minute tickets and instead headed to the Aviva Stadium to watch it live. Obviously, I’m now delighted I got the opportunity as it was a brilliant match and the atmosphere in the stadium was amazing. Despite many spectators predicting that Ireland would be defeated at home by their rivals, this was not the case as Brian O’Driscoll instead led his team to victory. And an outstanding victory at that as they beat England 24 – 8 and in turn destroyed their chance at the Grand Slam title. I would also like to congratulate Clarenbridge GAA on their victory against ...

St. Patrick’s Day is the one day of the year that most Irish people, both home and abroad, look forward to. Some because of the extra day off work with a chance to celebrate their Irishness and others because it’s a chance to take a break on their sacrifice for Lent! Giving up all the bad things for Lent is something most of us have done since we were small and we were always allowed a days grace on St. Patrick’s Day which made the sacrifice a bit easier. The only problem this year though is that Lent only started a week ago so it’s going to be a long five week wait until Easter! This year with Paddy’s Day falling on a Thursday it meant an extra long weekend for most but unfortunately I wasn’t so lucky. I did manage to take yesterday off though ...

Now that the election is over, the focus this week was on Enda Kenny announcing his new Ministers of State. Of course the appointment that would interest me the most was who he was going to chose as his Tourism minister. Although I was slightly surprised by his choice to put Transport, Tourism and Sport into one department I would like to wish Leo Varadkar the best of luck in the role and look forward to working with him in the future. Another big story in the news this week was of course Pancake Tuesday! This is one day of the year that everyone looks forward to even though we’re all guilty of overindulging. The Carlton Group were giving away free pancakes with every main course purchased and I must admit I sampled quite a few myself! I think overindulging is part of the f ...

It was great to see the Irish Cricket team get such a fantastic result against England on Wednesday, it was like "Italia 90" again reading the papers yesterday morning. I'll be up early on Sunday to watch the game against India, it would be amazing if they could spring another surprise and if not hopefully they can power on and make the super 8's.Another great victory this week was had by the Carlton Redcastle Hotel, who were voted realweddings.ie Ulster Wedding Venue of the year. This is a great achievement for the team up in Donegal and I've no doubt there are plenty more to follow. On Thursday evening I attended the re-launch of Mercy's Restaurant in our Carlton Abbey Hotel in Athy. Richard and the team have really done a fantastic job with the restaurant, with some delectable ...

The news this week has been all about election day and encouraging everyone to exercise their right to vote and go down to their local polling stations on Friday. Although I prefer to remain neutral when talking publicly about the election I can’t stress enough how important it is that everyone votes. I’ll be down to my local polling station as soon as I get a chance today and I’ll be making sure my colleagues take the time to do the same! As it is all about voting this week, I’m sure you know that we at the Carlton Hotel Group always like to get in on the action. At our recent marketing meeting I had heard the team mention an idea about a voting offer and I must admit I’m impressed with what they came up with. Playing on the ‘vote 123’ c ...
