Olympic Swimmers

Posted: 2012-03-02 13:00:00 I was delighted that I got the chance to watch Ireland take on Italy in the Six Nations game on Saturday. It was definitely a match worth watching as Ireland beat Italy 42 – 10, which was great to see after their defeat against Wales. Hopefully they’ll be on form again this Sunday when they take on France, either way I’ll be cheering them on. This week the National Aquatic Centre hosted the Carlton Long Course Nationals and the Irish Olympic trials with a lot of the teams staying with us at the Carlton Hotel Blanchardstown. We were delighted to be the main sponsors of such a fantastic event and from what I’ve heard it has been going really well. This week we also heard the news that South Korea's Olympic swimming team will train in the National Aquatic Cen ...

Wedding Giveaway

Posted: 2012-02-24 15:30:00 I’ve been based in the office for most of the week so I’ve had a chance to catch up on what’s been going on in Carlton head office lately. I’ve been getting filled in on all the latest campaigns and marketing activities and as always am delighted to see there’s plenty of activity going on. The big focus for the next few weeks is our wedding giveaway competition where we will give one lucky Facebook fan a free wedding at a Carlton Hotel of their choice. Our online team showed me how it will work and I must admit it looks very impressive and it’s sure to prove very popular with brides to be.The idea for the competition came from the fact that this year is a Leap Year and according to tradition is a popular time for females to propose. What our te ...

Soccer Stars in Limerick

Posted: 2012-02-17 17:00:00 Last weekend didn’t quite go as planned as the Ireland and France rugby game was postponed due to the weather conditions in Paris. Along with the rest of the country I’ll now have to wait until the 4th of March to watch the game. I did get to watch the Wales and Scotland game on Sunday though and I’m glad I did. It was a great game with Wales proving how good they are by scoring three times in 13 minutes and ultimately beating Scotland 27-13. They are now top of the RBS 6 Nations Championship and will be looking to hold onto that position when they take on England on the 25th of February. In other sporting news the staff at the Carlton Castletroy Park Hotel were delighted to meet former Manchester City and Arsenal star Patrick Vieira on Sunday night. The World Cu ...

Love is in the Air!

Posted: 2012-02-10 17:30:00 Whether you celebrate it or not you can’t hide from the fact that Valentines Day is just around the corner. Being a hotel group Valentines is one of the busiest holidays in the year and from what I have witnessed this week our hotels are in full swing preparing for it! Our marketing team in head office went with a more controversial campaign this year and decided to target the lads with the adverts entitled ‘Keep your Bird Happy’. I was a bit surprised by it at first but I must admit it has been one of our most successful Valentines campaigns to date so maybe they’re onto something!Along with the weekends away and dining out, Valentines is one of the most popular times for hotels to hold wedding fairs as a lot of couples have recently got engaged or are pl ...

Carlton Apprentice Awards

Posted: 2012-02-03 17:00:00 As I mentioned briefly in my post last week, we had the Carlton Apprentice Awards Night at the Carlton Hotel Kinsale last Thursday. For those of you that have been following my blog you’ll know we recently ran a competition to search for the new Carlton Apprentice, following the success of last year’s campaign. After a tough competition Louise Rennison from the Carlton Castletroy Park Hotel won the overall competition and became the new Carlton Apprentice. The awards night in Kinsale gave me the chance to reward all the Apprentices for their hard work and commitment throughout the task. Not only did I present Louise with her prizes, I also presented certificates to all apprentices as recognition of the work they put into the competition. Unfortunately some of them were ...

Achill Half Marathon Launch

Posted: 2012-01-26 16:00:00 I’ve been out of the office more often than in it this week as I had a lot of meetings and appointments in other hotels and locations. I might get to see my desk at some stage next week but so far I’m enjoying being on the road again as its been a while! On Wednesday I was at the Carlton Hotel Blanchardstown as we had a meeting to review our plans for the Rose of Tralee this year. It’s hard to think we’re planning for August already but I’d say it won’t be long about coming round! Before that though I had an important photo shoot to attend on Tuesday at the launch of this year’s Achill Half Marathon. Now in its seventh year the Achill Half Marathon is set around a stunning course on the west-coast island and is open to competitive runners, ...

Carlton on TV

Posted: 2012-01-20 17:00:00 It’s been another busy week at Carlton head office for us all as we make plans for the coming year. We’re looking forward to the opportunities and challenges ahead of us this year and with the work we’ve completed over the last few weeks we’ve certainly planned for every eventuality. Although we’ve been busy we’ve managed to take some time out to try our luck at becoming TV game show winners this evening! We at the Carlton group have dipped our toes into the crazy world of Entertainment and will be appearing on RTÉ Television's new series 'Who Knows Ireland Best?' tonight at 8:30pm. Sophia Weir, Director of Spa Operations, Declan Meagher, General Manager of the Carlton Dublin Airport Hotel, and myself will all take part in the new game sh ...
