Welcome from Our Chief Executive, Michael Kearney

As Chief Executive of Carlton Hotel Group, I'd like to welcome you to the Carlton Hotel Group blog. The Carlton Hotel Group was established in 2004 and since then has developed as one of the premier Hotel Groups in Ireland. In the past 7 years Carlton has grown substantially from operating one hotel to having a presence in many locations throughout Ireland.
Through this blog it is my aim to give you an insight into what's going on in all of our hotels plus my opinions on current affairs, sports news, general activities and events. I will also occassionally invite some of my colleagues to write on the blog giving you more opinions and insights into what's going on at Carlton. If you have any questions or queries on any of the posts please leave a comment and I will respond at my earliest convenience. Enjoy reading.............

TV3 in Westport

Posted: 2011-07-06 09:30:00 Last weekend saw the much anticipated Leinster Senior Hurling Final between Kilkenny and Dublin and although we all thought Dublin were in with a chance, Kilkenny proved to be the better team on the day. I was hoping that Dublin would win the Leinster title but I must admit Kilkenny deserved their victory plus Henry Shefflin proved he’s back in form after being out with injuries! Kilkenny weren’t the only winning team on Sunday as my home county Galway beat Clare by a massive margin of 4 goals and 5 points. Hopefully they’ll make it to in a row in their match against Cork this weekend!Following TV3’s visit to Kinsale two weeks ago, they are broadcasting another edition of Ireland AM live from the Carlton Atlantic Coast Hotel tomorrow in association with De ...

Summer Season Begins!

Posted: 2011-07-01 16:00:00 It wasn’t a great weekend in sport for me last weekend as both my home county Galway and my adopted county Kildare lost their matches at the weekend. Mayo beat Galway by a margin of 6 points but it was a narrower victory for Dublin as they beat Kildare by just one point. Thankfully though there is still another chance for both teams and you never know they might still make it through to the All-Ireland in September! The start of the school holidays is always a busy time for any hotel and we’ve been no exception this week! All the hotels have been preparing for the holiday season and organising their kids clubs to cater for all the families with young children. As with last year there are a lot more families choosing a ‘staycation’ over a holiday abroad, whi ...

Carlton Mini Explorers

Posted: 2011-06-24 11:30:00 As I mentioned earlier in the week, TV3 were filming Ireland AM live at the Carlton Hotel Kinsale yesterday morning and it was a great success. I didn’t make it down to Kinsale myself as I had meetings in Dublin but I did manage to catch a few hours of the show on TV and I was delighted with the footage shown. The hotel itself looked really well, of course the weather helped a lot, and I’d like to congratulate John McGrath and his team on the hard work they’ve done in preparations over the past week. I’d also like to extend my congratulations to our Group Director of Spa Operations, Sophia Weir, on her interview with Alan Hughes, I didn’t realise she was such a natural in front of the camera! For the Carlton Group, the live broadcast gave us the chanc ...

TV3 in Kinsale

Posted: 2011-06-21 15:00:00 Thankfully I wasn’t too busy at the weekend and was able to catch the hurling match between my home county Galway and Dublin on Saturday night. As a Galway supporter it was a hard match to watch but I must admit the better team won on the day and we missed out on a spot in the Leinster final against Kilkenny. Although I would have preferred to see Galway win I’m not a sore loser and I would like to see Dublin beat the Cats and go on to be this year’s Leinster champions! Our main focus this week is on the Carlton Hotel Kinsale as TV3 are hosting their Ireland AM show live from the hotel on Thursday. The Ireland AM crew will be filming in the hotel from 7am until 10am and the preparations for it are in full swing at the moment. Not only is this a great opportunity ...

Carlton Hotel Dublin Airport's Birthday

Posted: 2011-06-16 17:00:00 It’s that time of year again and the sports news this week has mainly been about one of the biggest racing festivals in the UK, Royal Ascot. Although I didn’t manage to make it across the pond to watch the racing live, I have caught some of the highlights. I know I admitted to not being much of a betting man but even I couldn’t resist a slight flutter on the big race of the week, the Gold Cup. Thankfully it wasn’t a large bet as I hadn’t put my money on Fame & Glory, who followed his former stable mate Yeats, and won the race. The big event in Carlton news at the weekend was the celebration of the Carlton Hotel Dublin Airport’s 5th Birthday last Thursday night. It’s hard to believe its been five years since we opened this hotel but let ...

The next Rose of Tralee?

Posted: 2011-06-10 10:00:00 Another long weekend over but unfortunately we didn’t get the heat wave we were promised. I’m sure many of you took the barbeque out of the shed on Friday evening and put it back in on Saturday! Even the sunny weather that traditionally comes with the start of the Leaving and Junior cert exams hasn’t happened this year but maybe it’ll pick up in the next week or two. Hopefully the exams are going well for all the students sitting them this year, from what I’ve heard there have been no surprises on the questions so far which is a good sign. The regional finals of the Rose of Tralee were on in Portlaoise at the weekend and from what I’ve heard they went very well. Not only were there plenty of Roses at the event but all their friends and family ca ...

Rose of Tralee Returns

Posted: 2011-06-03 13:00:00 This has been a busy week for us at Carlton as we prepare for the return of the Rose of Tralee festival this year. This weekend we have the regional finals in Portlaoise from today right through the weekend. As I’m a judge on the final I can’t be involved in the judging of the regional finals. However, we do still have Carlton representatives involved as our Director of Sales and Marketing, Jean O’Connell, is judging the Irish Roses and the General Manager of the Carlton Hotel Dublin Airport, Declan Meaghar, is judging the International Roses. It’s great for both of them to get to know some of the Roses before they meet them again during the Rose tour in August. It’s hard to believe its been almost a year already but I hope Clare Kambamettu has enjoy ...
