That time of year again already?

Posted: 2012-11-16 17:00:00 I must start by mentioning the Ireland V South Africa rugby game at the Aviva last Saturday afternoon and despite a strong performance by the home team, it unfortunately wasn’t enough to win. Ireland were the stronger team in the first half and were nine points ahead going into half time. But South Africa came back fighting in the second half and eventually beat Ireland 16 points to 12. Despite missing many of their key players due to injury, Ireland played a good game and will hopefully be victorious in their next match. In Carlton news this week there has been plenty going on as per usual these days! The hotels are in full swing preparing for their Christmas party nights which from what I hear are filling up fast so if you’ve yet to book yours make sure to check our ...

Obama Re-elected

Posted: 2012-11-09 14:00:00 This week some of our sales and marketing team travelled over to London to attend the World Travel Market. It has been a very successful event in the past for us and from what I’ve heard this year went just as well for our team. They were fully booked up with meetings over the three days and made plenty of new contacts as well as meeting some familiar faces. Overall the event seems to have been a great success and the team are already working on some enquiries generated from their meetings.Of course the big news this week was the Presidential election in America, with the two main candidates being Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. The vote was very close but Barack Obama won and was re-elected to serve another four years as President of America. On behalf of all of us here at t ...

Happy Halloween

Posted: 2012-11-02 16:40:00 It’s always the same after a bank holiday weekend, back to the office Tuesday to try fit a full weeks work into four days. But I’m not complaining because it’s always great to get a long weekend, plus the week flies by when it’s really busy and before you know it, it’s the weekend again. This week was of course Halloween week with the trick or treaters out in their droves on Wednesday evening. For those of you that do celebrate it I hope you enjoyed the festivities and the dressing up but I must admit Halloween isn’t really a holiday I look forward to! Besides the fact the bangers drive the dog mad, it’s a real sign that the winter weather is coming and it definitely hit us with a bang this year! Although it was fairly dry and sunny over ...

Posted: 2012-10-26 17:00:00 Just to let you all know I have recently moved from the Carlton Atlantic Coast Hotel Westport to the Carlton Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe and what a start it has been for my new appointment. You really do hit the ground running in this business.Wow......the Carlton Shearwater Hotel has been a hive of activity! With the Carlton Hotel Group as a major sponsor of the Internationals Rose of Tralee Festival we at the Carlton Shearwater Hotel & C Spa have had the pleasure of hosting a Rose Reunion for the previous winners of the Rose of Tralee, now in its 2nd year. Fourteen ladies joined us to celebrate the night they like to call a ‘sisterhood’ reunion and it was a pleasure to spend the evening with these fantastic ladies.  The evening began with a beautiful ca ...

Carlton Shearwater wins Wedding Award

Posted: 2012-10-19 16:00:00 It’s been a really busy week for me but I can’t complain really because it’s much better to be kept busy! I mentioned last week that our hotels are busy preparing for the Halloween mid-term and from what I’ve heard most of them are nearly fully booked so there’ll definitely be plenty of activity around our hotels over the bank holiday weekend. If you still haven’t booked your break away make sure to do it soon and avail of our great Mini Explorers Offers before it’s too late! This week we were delighted to hear that the Carlton Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway won the Best Galway Venue in the 2012 weddingdates.ie awards. These awards are based on real reviews from past brides so it’s a brilliant achievement for the hotel. ...

Mini Explorers Halloween Breaks

Posted: 2012-10-12 15:00:00 I spend a lot of my time travelling around the country, attending meetings and visiting our hotels, so when I get to spend a few days in my office at the Carlton Dublin Airport I always take the opportunity to catch up with our sales and marketing team. This week their focus was on pushing family breaks for the busy Halloween period, as well as promoting the popular Mini Explorers Kids Clubs'.The Mini Explorers Club was launched earlier this year and was very popular with parents because the club has a strong healthy eating and exercising ethos with the emphasis being on mostly outdoors activities. Of course with the weather we can expect to have over the Halloween mid-term there might not be much opportunity for outdoor activities but there will still be plenty more fun, healthy ...

Kilkenny are Champions

Posted: 2012-10-05 17:00:00 Last Sunday afternoon was the second round of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final, the match I had been waiting for since the 9th of September when my home county Galway drew against Kilkenny in the All-Ireland Final. The first time Galway took on Kilkenny in this championship, in the Leinster Final, they beat the Cats and their second meeting ended in a draw so I was hoping they would avoid defeat for a third time last Sunday. Unfortunately though the match didn’t end with the result I wanted!Galway were off to a great start, scoring two goals in the first half, but Kilkenny did not give up and fought back hard, scoring 1-07 to take the lead with the score standing at 1-11 to 2-04 going into the second half. A succession of points and two more goals in the second half of ...
