Welcome from Our Chief Executive, Michael Kearney
As Chief Executive of Carlton Hotel Group, I'd like to welcome you to the Carlton Hotel Group blog. The Carlton Hotel Group was established in 2004 and since then has developed as one of the premier Hotel Groups in Ireland. In the past 7 years Carlton has grown substantially from operating one hotel to having a presence in many locations throughout Ireland.
Through this blog it is my aim to give you an insight into what's going on in all of our hotels plus my opinions on current affairs, sports news, general activities and events. I will also occassionally invite some of my colleagues to write on the blog giving you more opinions and insights into what's going on at Carlton. If you have any questions or queries on any of the posts please leave a comment and I will respond at my earliest convenience. Enjoy reading.............

This week I’m all about rugby as I was at the Irish Rugby Union Players Association (IRUPA) player of the year awards ceremony on Wednesday night. The Awards were held at the Burlington Hotel and I attended with our Sports Sales Developer, Kevin West. One of the big winners on the night was Rob Kearney who won the coveted ‘Irish Player of the Year’ award as voted for by his peers. The highlights of the night for me were definitely Brad Thorn’s speech and of course getting the chance to chat to Ireland and Lions star Shane Byrne. It was a great night overall and a great chance to celebrate the stars of Irish rugby. Also this week the Carlton Hotel Galway City, who are proud hospitality sponsor of Connacht Rugby, were delighted with the news that Connacht wil ...

Last weekend was a great weekend for Irish rubgy with both Leinster and Ulster winning their respective games meaning this year’s Heineken Cup will be awarded to an Irish team. Leinster played a great game against Clermont in Bordeaux on Sunday and although it was a close call they managed to win with a score of 19 to Clermont’s 15. In other rugby news, this weekend our sponsored team North Kildare will be playing in the Kinsale Sevens and I’d like to take this opportunity to wish them the best of luck. They will be competing against rugby teams from all over the world and with over 150 games played throughout the weekend it’s sure to be a great event. Also this weekend, the Carlton Hotel Group are delighted to be sponsoring the 2012 Amateur Chef Competiti ...

This is the first time I’ve been invited to write on Michael’s blog so it’s probably best to start by introducing myself! I am the Director of Spa Operations for the Carlton Hotel Group and as part of my role I ensure that our Mini Explorers Clubs are available for you across 8 of our hotels, so you can have some well deserved ‘me time’. As we are coming into the summer months there is a particular focus on the club and we have lots of exciting plans to re-launch the campaign. Our Mini Explorers Children's Club has a strong healthy eating and exercising ethos with our emphasis being on mostly outdoors activities. We offer a wide variety of games & competitions focusing on using children’s imagination and further developing their social skill ...

It’s been another busy week for Carlton Head Office as the team prepare for the summer months. Our sales and marketing team have been working on new ideas to promote our hotels over the next few months in the lead up to the summer. From what I’ve been told so far it sounds like there are a lot of great things in the works so I’m looking forward to hearing more. I say it every year but it’s hard to believe we’re planning for the summer already, it’ll be Christmas before we know it!Also this week was the Fáilte Ireland Meitheal Trade Fair in the RDS which our Director of Sales and Marketing, Jean O’Connell attended, along with some of our hotels’ sales managers. The event was a great success and as with past year’s I&rsqu ...

It was a short week for me this week with Bank Holiday Easter Monday, not for the hotel’s though as it was a very busy week across the properties with plenty of families enjoying the Easter break. This week I had a very pressing engagement, I had to attend the (IGTOA) Irish Golf Tour Operators Association’s annual outing in Kinsale, this is a very important event for us as a Hotel Group as these tour operators bring in golfing groups from all over the world to come play our magnificent courses and they are a major benefit to tourism in Ireland. This year we also had the honour of hosting their Lunch Event in the Carlton Hotel Kinsale which was a great success and most enjoyable, and a great credit to Anne-Marie and her team in the Kinsale. On a final not it was great to ...

The highlight of the week was the visit of President Michael D Higgins to the Carlton Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe on Wednesday. President Higgins was there as guest speaker at the USI congress which took place in the hotel from Monday. The congress itself was a huge success and was a major “tweeting point” come Tuesday morning. It’s great for the town of Ballinasloe to have the focus of the countries media on it for the whole week for very positive reasons, and I must commend the USI on their organisation of such a great congress and I hope we can welcome them back to a Carlton Hotel in the near future.Ballinasloe is a hive of activity this week with the Galway Rose selection night taking place in the Carlton Shearwater Hotel on Saturday and I ...

It’s been a glorious few days this week weather wise and it was great to see the hotels buzzing with happy people due to the few nice rays of sunshine, hopefully we get more of the same in the summer. It’s a busy time of year in Carlton Head office with all the plans for the Summer falling into place, one of our major promotions of the year kicks off on Sunday which is our April Fool’s 50% Sale (and no it’s not a joke) so I’m sure the hotels will be well prepared for a busy few days of enquiries. One of the engagements I’m most looking forward to this week and have been for quite a while is the visit of Uachtarán na hÉireann Michael D Higgins to the Carlton Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe. President Higgins will be there to speak a ...
