Welcome from Our Chief Executive, Michael Kearney
As Chief Executive of Carlton Hotel Group, I'd like to welcome you to the Carlton Hotel Group blog. The Carlton Hotel Group was established in 2004 and since then has developed as one of the premier Hotel Groups in Ireland. In the past 7 years Carlton has grown substantially from operating one hotel to having a presence in many locations throughout Ireland.
Through this blog it is my aim to give you an insight into what's going on in all of our hotels plus my opinions on current affairs, sports news, general activities and events. I will also occassionally invite some of my colleagues to write on the blog giving you more opinions and insights into what's going on at Carlton. If you have any questions or queries on any of the posts please leave a comment and I will respond at my earliest convenience. Enjoy reading.............

The summer season is truly upon us at the Carlton Hotel & C Spa Kinsale and what better way to enjoy it than with the weather we've been having here in West Cork, it has been a joy. We were fortunate enough to have clear blue skies and bright sunshine for our fabulous brides & grooms who celebrated their wonderful weddings over the June Bank Holiday Weekend and long may it continue. Next on our calendar is the end of school term and the summer holidays and we are really looking forward to welcoming our family visitors to the Carlton Kinsale. We are also offering our Mini Explorer Breaks again this year so parents can have a break too knowing their children are having an amazing time in our kids club. The Gathering 2013 is in full swing in West Cork this year. Hasn’t the weather this week been incredible? It looks set to continue for the weekend so no doubt there will be barbeques all across the country tomorrow and Sunday. I’d say some of you even dusted it down and used it during the week, any excuse to spend some time in the garden! It’s not often we get nice weather so when we do we like to make the most of it. Last weekend the weather wasn’t quite as nice but that didn’t stop people from all over the country travelling to the Phoenix Park to attend the Bloom Festival and visit Dublin Zoo. The Carlton Group were at Dublin Zoo on Saturday, Sunday and Monday over the bank holiday promoting Mini Explorers Family Breaks. We were there last year and it was such a success we decided to go back again this yea ...

This morning I took a trip over to the Carlton Blanchardstown to attend the official opening of the N2/N3 link road in west Dublin. The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Leo Varadkar spoke at the launch in Blanchardstown this morning and I was delighted to get the opportunity to meet with him. It was interesting listening to him speak as he pointed out that “this new road is not only a link between two motorways and an alternative route to and from the airport, but it will also bring vital business to the area.” He also spoke about the exciting new employment opportunities that the new road is sure to bring, explaining that one local employer is already planning to develop a site along the road which will create new jobs. The road works have been causing some ...

Here at the Carlton Hotel Blanchardstown we are continuing to build on our reputation as the ‘Dublin Home to the Rose of Tralee’ in 2013. We were delighted to host a Rose of Tralee Mock Wedding recently, in aid of Chernobyl, with the charming 2010 Rose of Tralee Tara Talbot as the bride and 2012 Escort of the Year Ian Cullinane as the groom. Ian and the 2010 Donegal Rose, Maria McCole, were the driving force behind this fantastic event that welcomed a crowd of over 200 guests and some very familiar faces. We are also delighted to be welcoming back the Dublin Rose Selection Night on the 20th June. I have no doubt that the event will bring out some very strong candidates for the Festival this year! Speaking of this year’s Rose of Tralee, myself and the team are al ...

The Carlton Shearwater Hotel have been working on ideas to promote their food offering locally and the latest offer is proving to be a great success. The hotel have been giving away free samples of their fish & chips on Fridays from 4pm to 6pm as part of their ‘Thank Carlton it’s Friday’ promotion. They launched the offer in conjunction with the launch of their new Facebook page and it seems to be going down well with locals, residents and Facebook fans alike. People always say there’s no such thing as a free meal but there is at the Carlton Shearwater Hotel! Make sure to keep an eye on their Facebook page for more details on similar offers and promotions at the hotel. In other Carlton new this week, the Carlton Blanchardstown and the Carlton Shearwate ...

The Tralee Triathlon will be held here on 29th June and the Carlton Hotel Tralee is partnered as the premier place to stay for the event. So, needless to say it is important for all involved that registration levels are high. “How can we help?” I asked at a planning meeting. The next thing I knew was I was being handed a wetsuit, “See you on Wednesday down at the Canal” Jim Breen, Founder of TriGrandPrix replied. “The launch will take place there... the most effective photos will be those ones of us jumping in to the canal so we can dispel any myths of the quality of the water as well as raise the event's profile”. I walked out of that meeting in a daze... what had just happened in there? Why didn't I decline the request? The next ...

This week the Carlton Group went stateside as three of our managers travelled to Cornell University in New York! Declan Curtis & Eveanna Ryan from the Carlton Blanchardstown and Barry Kilroy from the Carlton Shearwater Hotel were there for one of their modules on Fáilte Ireland’s Executive Management Programme. The programme is now in its eighth year and is designed in conjunction with Cornell University. At the Carlton Group we have seen many of our employees, at both group and hotel levels, complete this course over the eight years and it has been a real benefit to them and to us as a hotel group. I’m looking forward to seeing what this year’s participants have learned and how they apply it to their hotels. In other Carlton new this week, the Carlton ...
