New President of Ireland

Posted: 2011-11-04 12:00:00 The big news this week was of course the announcement that Michael D. Higgins won the election last Friday and is now the new President of Ireland. This year’s presidential campaign was one of the toughest yet with many people calling it a dirty campaign as it seemed some of the candidates were being targeted over things they have done in the past. Whether it was justified or not this is unfortunately what can happen if you’re in the public eye and if it didn’t come out during the campaign it would have come out at a later date anyway. In saying that though there were some great candidates in the race and according to the polls it was a close call between Sean Gallagher and Michael D. Higgins right up to the end. I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate Michael D. on behalf of the Carlton Group and I’m sure he will make a great president.

Of course this week we also had Halloween and to celebrate the Carlton Millrace Hotel had a fancy dress party. From what I’ve heard there was a great turn out with many of the locals and residents putting a lot of effort into dressing the part! Also this week the Carlton Hotel Blanchardstown became the official sponsors of the Coolmine Rugby Club’s under 21s team. It’s great to see the hotels support their local clubs and I’m sure there will be a few staff members out supporting the team in their new jerseys! In other Carlton news the Carlton Hotel Tralee opened their new Spa ‘Herbs & Roses by C Spa’ on Tuesday. There will be an official launch in a few weeks which I hope to attend but the spa is currently open to the public and residents and are offering Ytsara treatments, which I believe are Asian treatments!

Tonight of course is all about rugby as Leinster take on Munster in the Rabo Direct PRO12 and although Leinster will be without Brian O’Driscoll I’m hoping they will still win the game. I know what I’ll be doing tonight anyway and I hope you all enjoy your plans for the weekend!
