Monster Movie in Donegal!

Posted: 2011-01-28 16:00:00 I spent most of this week in my office at the Carlton Dublin Airport as I had a few meetings in the area and it was great to get the chance to catch up on some paperwork as I’m on the road next week and won’t get much chance to do it! My weekend ended up being quite busy so I didn’t get the chance to go to Galway but I’d like to congratulate Connacht on their win against Cavalieri Prato on Saturday, I believe it was a great match! Hopefully they’ll make it three in a row in their match against the Scarlets on the 12th of February; I wish them the best of luck either way!

There was a lot of talk this week about a film being shot in Donegal and how it’s driving revenue for the local businesses. Donegal Hotels, bars and restaurants on the Inishowen Peninsula have been enjoying a boost in January trade since the cast and crew of the comedy-horror ‘Grabber’ arrived to town. I know this is definitely true for our property the Carlton Redcastle Hotel as it is the film’s production base and most of the cast and crew are staying there. It has given the hotel the opportunity to regain some of the business lost during the bad weather in December and it starts the year in a very positive note. It’s great to see the hotel so busy and full of activity in what can normally be a quiet month. If only we could convince the Irish film board to shoot another film there next year and maybe every other January after that!

This weekend is also going to be a busy one for our hotels on the other side of the country. The Carlton Kinsale are hosting a wedding showcase on Sunday and if their past events are anything to go by there will definitely be a good turn out. Also on Sunday the Carlton Hotel Tralee are holding an antiques fair which should prove to be popular with the locals, and for the first time since August 2009 there is a race meeting on Sunday afternoon.  It’s great to see the race meetings return to the track in Tralee as they are usually a great event. I’m off to Galway myself this weekend so I’m not sure if I’m going to make it to Tralee but if you’re around the area you should definitely try call up to the Ballybeggan course for what’s sure to be a great day out!

Whatever you decide to do this weekend just be sure to drive safe and enjoy!
