Ireland Wins!

Posted: 2011-03-25 12:00:00 The highly anticipated Ireland and England Six Nations game last Saturday certainly didn’t disappoint! I had planned to watch the match at home but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity of some last minute tickets and instead headed to the Aviva Stadium to watch it live. Obviously, I’m now delighted I got the opportunity as it was a brilliant match and the atmosphere in the stadium was amazing. Despite many spectators predicting that Ireland would be defeated at home by their rivals, this was not the case as Brian O’Driscoll instead led his team to victory. And an outstanding victory at that as they beat England 24 – 8 and in turn destroyed their chance at the Grand Slam title.

I would also like to congratulate Clarenbridge GAA on their victory against O’Loughlin Gaels in the All Ireland Club Hurling Final on 17th March. The team had lunch in the Carlton Hotel Dublin Airport before going on to claim the title of All Ireland Hurling Club Champions! The Carlton Millrace Hotel also welcomed a GAA team last week in the form of the Cavan Senior Football Team. The hotel was delighted to accommodate the team and cater for their pre and post match requirements, and all were delighted with the stay. Unfortunately though the team weren’t as lucky as Clarenbridge and were unsuccessful in their efforts in the National football league clash against Wexford. On behalf of the Carlton Millrace Hotel I would like to wish the Cavan Senior Football Team the very best of luck throughout the rest of the year.

Its Daffodil Day today and this has been clearly evident in all the Carlton Hotels this week. As the Irish Cancer Society is our official charity for 2011, all the Carlton Hotels have been selling daffodils at reception all week in aid of the charity. I have bought one myself and I hope the rest of you join me in support of this great cause. In keeping with raising funds for charity, the Carlton Shearwater Hotel are hosting their 10K fun run again this year in aid of the Irish Cancer Society on Sunday the 17th of April. The run begins and finishes from the Carlton Shearwater Hotel with light refreshments, and live music to help continue the celebratory atmosphere. If you’re around the Ballinasloe are on the day you should stop by and show your support.

Hopefully this heat wave we’re having will last for the weekend, or at least long enough for me to cut the grass!
