All-Ireland Champions
Posted: 2011-09-09 10:00:00
All-Ireland Final day is always a great time to be in Croke Park but last Sunday in particular was a great day for me. After watching both the Galway Hurling & Football Senior teams lose out on titles this year it was great to see the Minors bringing a title home to Galway. They played against Dublin in the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Final and although Dublin tried, Galway proved to be the better team and won with a victory of 9 points.
As I was in Croke Park for the Minor match I stayed on to watch the Senior Hurling Final between Tipperary and Kilkenny. I must admit I was hoping Tipperary would make it two in a row but Kilkenny definitely deserved to win. The Cats came back fighting for the title and were on top form, managing to score five points in 13 minutes. Unfortunately for Tipperary they never managed to close in on that gap and Kilkenny won by 4 points in the end. Although I’ve not always been an advocate for Kilkenny, they played a great game on Sunday and thoroughly deserved the title of All-Ireland Champions.
In other news this week I was shocked to hear about the fire at the Shannon Oaks Hotel in Galway. On behalf of the Carlton Hotel Group I would like to offer our support to the management, staff and their families. It is a fine property and a landmark in the Portumna community. I know the Carlton Shearwater hotel are working very closely with them to ensure that all of their guests are taken care of with as little inconvenience as possible.
The Canonball Run takes place this weekend and I’d like to wish all the participants the best of luck! I’ve taken part in it for the last few years but I have prior commitments this weekend so I wasn’t able to do it but hopefully they’ll raise plenty of money for Barrettstown. If you have no plans this weekend you should try make it to one of the towns that the cars pass through as its well worth seeing!
