The Galway Races
Unfortunately Galway didn’t make it through to the Hurling Semi-Finals as they were beaten by Waterford Sunday. They played a great game but Waterford were the better team on the day and deserved the win. Thankfully though there was a win the day before for my adopted county Kildare and they’ve now made it through to the Football Quarter-Finals following their victory over Derry. Hopefully they’ll beat Donegal this Saturday and make it through to the Semi-Finals!
Although Galway lost on Sunday there was plenty of celebrating going on in the city on Monday as the famous Galway Racing Festival kicked off. As with last year, I travelled over to the Ballybrit Racecourse on Monday with some of my colleagues to watch the feature race which is sponsored by the Carlton Hotel Group. There was a great crowd at the race including the current Rose of Tralee, Clare Kambamettu, Ronnie Whelan, some of the Connacht rugby team and of course a few members of the team from the Carlton Group! I got a few good tips throughout the evening but I didn’t part with much money on any of them so I had no big wins. Although I did come home with a few bob which is always a good sign!
In other sporting news, Swim Ireland successfully held the National Swim Champs at the National Aquatic Centre last week. Through Swim Ireland and as their preferred hotel partner we had teams from Egypt, France, The Netherlands, Kuwait and Croatia as well as many local swim clubs staying at the Carlton Hotel Blanchardstown.
It would be great if we got at least one good day of weather over the weekend but either way I hope you enjoy whatever you get up to!
