Galway are Leinster Champions!
What a weekend to be from Galway! The whole city was buzzing with the events around the finale of the Volvo Ocean Race and the city did us proud. People from all over the world were in the city of the tribes for the weekend to celebrate the finale and it was a great success. The festivities surrounding the Volvo Ocean Race came to an end on Sunday but the celebrations were only beginning for the GAA fans!
Galway took on Kilkenny in the Leinster Senior Hurling Final on Sunday and by all accounts the odds were against them. Not only are they the All-Ireland Champions but Kilkenny have also been crowned Leinster Champions for the last seven years in a row. Regardless of the odds and past results, it all comes down to how the teams preform on the day and Galway were definitely on top form on Sunday.
Galway came on fighting and completely dominated the first half of the game, leading 1-06 to 0 points from Kilkenny. Going into the second half Kilkenny had only managed to score 4 points while Galway held the lead 2-12. Kilkenny fought back in the second half but never quite managed to close the gap on Galway and the All-Ireland Champions were eventually defeated by 10 points. Galway, my home county, made history and claimed their first Leinster Senior Hurling Championship title. I’m sure the celebrations in Galway went well into the night and no doubt there were a few sore heads on Monday morning!
This week at Carlton we’re busy preparing for the wedding of the year on Thursday when Dáithí Ó’Sé marries Rita Talty in Dingle with the reception at the Carlton Hotel Tralee. Brigeen O’Sullivan, Carlton Tralee’s sales manager, will be a guest blogger on Friday to give you all the details about what went on behind the scenes on Thursday.
I’ll be back next week with some more news, until then enjoy your week and let’s hope the weather improves before the weekend!
