Spent a very productive day in Westport yesterday, definitely one of my favourite destinations especially on a clear day with all 365 islands in Clew Bay visible in all their glory.
If you haven't been down west before, put on the list. From Westport you are within a short drive of some of our most scenic spots on the Island. A great new addition to Westport is rebirth of the old railway line which has been converted into a walkway/cycleway which stretches the whole way out to Mulranny, I’ll definitely pack the walking shoes next time I’m down.
I was down in Westport to sample our new FishWorks cafebar which is proving a big hit locally, especially with people dropping down to the quay to walk out the pier, Garrett and the team have really put an awful lot of effort into this project and it really shows with some great fresh fish dishes on offer (and home cut chips that are… just try them). On the way back I even popped into one of our suppliers in killala and picked up some fresh crab claws for the tea at home, few minutes in boiling water – nothing beats fresh seafood.
As part of our participation in Destination Westport with the rest of the hotels in the Town, we are running a summer radio campaign, next week we have been luckily enough to been chosen to host the Rick O’Shea show live from the quay so tune if you get a chance.
Weekend can’t come quick enough with a long trip up North on the agenda in order to watch my adopted county the “lilywhites” battle it out with Derry in the GAA championship.
