New Developments for Dublin 15 - By Guest Blogger Eveanna Ryan
As we almost come to the end of 2013 we are taking time to reflect on all that has happened over the last year at the Carlton Hotel Blanchardstown. And one of the most exciting developments in our area was the brand new state of the art National Sports Campus that was officially opened on the 29th of May. The campus is just 5 minutes from the Carlton Hotel Blanchardstown and is now home to nineteen National Governing Bodies.
Outside of these 19 NGBs, National Horse Arena opened in October and is recognised as a new world-class equestrian training facility. The new arena has been established within the Walled Garden of Abbotstown House. It is the first publicly owned facility of its kind in Ireland and will give Irish equestrian athletes access to state-of-the-art facilities for 25 different equestrian sports.
Also the National Modern Pentathlon Centre has been established. High Performance training facilities in the disciplines of both Fencing and Pistol Shooting have been installed. These are 2 of the 5 disciplines which constitute the Modern Pentathlon – the other are Running, Swimming and Horse Riding – all of which can now be accommodated at the one location in the National Sports Campus. There is no other facility in Europe which can facilitate the 5 disciplines of Modern Pentathlon on one site. Irish Modern Pentathletes qualified for the Olympic Games in London in 2012 for the first time ever. These new purpose-built training facilities will be a great boost to their future efforts in preparation for international competition.
We are very excited to be able to part of this fantastic new development within the Dublin 15 area and we are very much looking forward to working with our friends at the Sports Campus through 2014 and beyond.
