Carlton Cup

Posted: 2010-11-11 16:00:00 The Carlton Cup five a side football tournament took place on Sunday for the third year in a row in Bunclody, Co. Wexford. For the past two years the Carlton Millrace have won the cup so rivalry was high on the day between all the teams as they were all eager to see the Millrace beaten.

All the teams played well but it was ultimately down to the Carlton Redcastle ‘Legends’ and the head office team to battle it out for the trophy. Maybe it was down to the cheerleading team of Leanne, Tara, Caoimhe & Ausra that lead to the Redcastle’s victory but I must admit I was disappointed that we didn’t win!

The trophy was well deserved by the ‘Legends’ though as Dermott, Mark, Niall, Dean and Brendan in goal fought a hard battle at every stage, eventually winning 3 goals to 1 with Dermott, the teams Captain and Dean scoring the winning goals. Dermott later attempted to take home a second trophy but unfortunately his singing skills in the karaoke were not as good as his foot skills on the pitch! This trophy was won by Aaron from Dublin Airport so at least one trophy is coming up to Dublin!

The Redcastle team were thrilled that the effort the staff and hotel put into the event had paid off with a win and that the cup would be making its way 196 miles north to the Carlton Redcastle Hotel in Donegal. Much merriment was had in celebrating the win and the entire event with teams from across the group, which was as much about participating as taking part in a company event with collective team spirit for the entire Carlton Group.

The team’s return to Redcastle was celebrated in style, just as though they had won the world cup! Ian Wynne, General Manager, was thrilled “that the effort and commitment to the event, that the staff put in has been rewarded in every way, I am happy for everyone involved and obviously for the Carlton Redcastle Team!”.
