Busy Ballinasloe!

Posted: 2012-04-06 14:00:00 The highlight of the week was the visit of President Michael D Higgins to the Carlton Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe on Wednesday. President Higgins was there as guest speaker at the USI congress which took place in the hotel from Monday. The congress itself was a huge success and was a major “tweeting point” come Tuesday morning. It’s great for the town of Ballinasloe to have the focus of the countries media on it for the whole week for very positive reasons, and I must commend the USI on their organisation of such a great congress and I hope we can welcome them back to a Carlton Hotel in the near future.

Ballinasloe is a hive of activity this week with the Galway Rose selection night taking place in the Carlton Shearwater Hotel on Saturday and I must wish best of luck to our own Eveanna Ryan who is set the very difficult task of choosing a girl to represent Galway down in the Regional Finals in Portlaoise. I’ve no doubt a great night will be had by all the ladies taking part, and I hope to see one of them in Tralee on stage.

Thankfully all of the hotels are very busy this weekend with a lot of people looking to get a break away for the long weekend, I myself am looking forward to some dessert on Sunday which I’d given up for lent and hopefully our dessert sales will pick up again across the group with everyone back on their vices.

We had a  great response to our Wedding Competition with over 150 finalists and the winners were announced on Monday with voting going live the same day. Very little information has been released to me about how the voting is going but I know we have received a few thousand already and I’ve heard through the grapevine that the voting is very tight between the prospective couples, best of luck to everyone involved.

We had a great competition with the Sunday World on April 1st to celebrate April Fools and we received some great entries and the winners will be published this Sunday’s edition of the paper.

On a last note, I must wish best of luck to Leinster in the Heineken Cup Quarter Final on Saturday, I won’t be able to make the game unfortunately but I’ll be glued to the TV and hopefully they can set up a nice Semi Final in London or Bordeaux, with regards the other game, it’ll be very tight and we look forward to accommodating the winning fans for the Heineken Cup Semi Final in the Aviva in Late April.
