Apprentice Week 8

The task for the candidates this week was set by Appleby Jewellers, their third year to be involved with the Apprentice. For the task each team had to create a viral video promoting Appleby’s new website and then present their idea at a breakfast meeting. Bill left the teams as they were this week and let them choose their own project managers. Despite Panos having online marketing experience, Elev8 chose Tara for their project manager and Fusion chose Niamh.

Once the project manager’s were decided it was up to each team to start working on ideas for their viral, although at first neither team understood exactly what it was. Despite Panos spending the whole day trying to explain a viral to his team it was only at the end of day one that they realised what it was, after they had wasted a day’s planning. The next morning the teams had to shoot their videos and organise props for their presentations. However, Fusion were much more organised than Elev8 and as a result had a much more productive day.

On the morning of the breakfast meeting it was clear which team would win as Elev8’s presentation was sloppy and there was little or no thought given to the layout of the room or the breakfast served. Project manager Tara Lee brought Panos Zametakis and Jamie Moran back into the boardroom with her and despite the two others blaming Panos, Bill decided to fire Tara which was no surprise given her poor performance on this task.

Next week’s task should hopefully eliminate one of the candidates that I believe doesn’t deserve to still be there but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens!
