Apprentice Week 5
The object of this week’s task was to create a bus shelter billboard advertising WEEE Ireland Recycling plus a marketing strategy for the billboards. I thought it was a fairly simple task and one that would give the candidates a chance to be creative. Once again they proved me wrong!
After a switch of team members Bill chose Barry as project manager for Fusion and Tara as project manager for Elev8. Once the brainstorming sessions started Elev8 came up with their idea quite quickly but Fusion on the other hand seemed to struggle with their campaign. Both teams made a few mistakes along the way but the one that angered me the most was when Elev8 changed WEEE Ireland’s logo. This is something that Bill has spoken out against in the past as it is a big mistake in business to change another company’s logo. I don’t think the final result for either team was pretty impressive or innovative but Elev8’s campaign was the better of the two and as a result they won the task.
Following their defeat, Fusion project manager, Barry Caesar Hunt, brought Caroline McHugh and Ciara McManus back into the boardroom with him. This week Ciara did deserve to be brought back in as I think she contributed very little but on the day it was Caroline who was fired as she hasn’t been particularly strong in any of the tasks.
I know I’ve mentioned it before but there are definitely a few candidates that seem to be participating very little and just coasting along as they are on the winning team. I’m really hoping one of them will go next week but as always we’ll just have to wait to find out!
